I have spoken to my mate about the paint job and he said they can spray the bonnet and blend the colour match down the wings.

Assembled and fitted the bumper support

Replated all the headlight washer pipe clips

    Fog light brackets fitted

    Fitted

Replated relay bracket and mounting studs for the ABS

Great work! I wish I had the time to do my project at this level.

Don't listen to the other guys, it is much easier and quicker to take the engine out with the box still attached.

I used to split them prior to taking them out, never again.

Thanks, it was removing the prop from the box that I was concerned about, those bolts where it connects to the diff are awkward sods

    Some more then

Top tip this Cutting bolts down with a hacksaw leaves a rough edge at the start of the thread. This can easily cause damage when screwing into alloy parts. It's also easy to cross thread them. Fit a nut on the bolt before cutting

Rough edge where the thread starts

Ideally dress the bolt in a grindstone

When the nut is removed it cleans any slight burrs from the thread

    Good top tip there Pete

You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

And if you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem!

    No probs

I have cleared the office out in order to make space for the engine and box. According to my measurements the engine is 26” wide, exactly the width of the door I have temporarily re fitted the front bumper, here are some pics with the type 2 splitter

Bearing in mind I am not going to strip the engine, will I need an engine stand or can it be supported on some kind of table? Also the plan is to remove the gearbox whilst still supported on the crane. Is this possible and how many people are needed to carry a complete engine?

    Thanks
    Pete

You can carry the gearbox on your own and I'd say a minimum of 2 people to shift the engine.

I'd hope so if BenTaylor200 suggests it requires two people minimum to shift the engine, then that would be 225KG each if your engine stand couldn't take it :O

Behave you lot There’s no way I am striping the engine. The best it’s going to get is a new thermostat.... I think

Manifold studs are rusty so I plan to remove these one at a time to replate them. I will also replace as many nuts & bolts as I can with stainless

With it all in bits, I hope you'll be changing all the gaskets... so you might as well remove the manifold and do all the nuts and studs at the same time

So, when back together, do show us how you solve every last squeak and rattle, I have some i'd really like to cure

Is it really necessary to change all the gaskets There were no rattles or squeaks before I stripped it I just hope I can build it back up as good.

    Brake Master Cylinder - refurb

    Hi Pete,

Have you ever done a BMC refurb? I have a 300zx one that needs rebuilding and wondered what it entails...

    Thanks,
    Graham.

I would say once you have disturbed everything and taken it to bits anyways... elbow/turbo/manifold (except metal one)/exhaust gaskets are pretty cheap, and chances are if you put it back together and run it they'll go in the near future, and with it in bits, it's a cheap job that is a bit of a pain once everything is in situ, that's all im thinking
