SXOC infinite wisdom... 4 door fun required

I know I've not been on for some time so at you all!

I'm after a few suggestions. There have been a few cars since I sold my beloved s14a. I still have the Evo (sorned pending restoration - well, it is 25 years old now) and ran a Golf gt tdi followed by a Clio 172 and currently a Megane RS. So. I need to replace the Meg due to an accident that has injured my lower back and the seats make it worse. To the extent that I cannot drive for longer than 30 mins without significant amounts of pain that the cocktail of pills I'm on cannot hide.

I need 4/5 doors, something fun that does over 30mpg preferably rwd and I have a budget of around £5000.

Not really a BMW/Merc fan - more Jap unless its something special like an Alpina. Gutted I missed out on a n/a Chaser JZX100 this morning by a matter of two hours. That would have been perfect - even as it needed new bumpers so perfect excuse for a kit! My other half (and the insurance co) have veto'd a 4 door R34 I found.

So I'm after suggestions and ideas please that fits these criteria. She wants me to have a mk2 Focus ST. I'm resisting this so far as I'd prefer something rwd.

    4\5 doors
    30ish mpg
    Pref rwd
    Fun!
Auto or manual but a heavy clutch is a no no.
    Reasonable spec
    Around £5000.

If anyone happens to have a jzx90/100 for this, let me know!

S60r...... Just about see the economy you want with a light foot.

    Proper understated super saloon.

The engine that the focus abducted for the St but AWD

Also Volvo have THE COMFIEST seats esp. For lumbar support

I really liked the is250 sport when I tried one, very well specced and put together, not as fast as you'd like but no slouch

The boot opening was too small get the push chair in at the time tho

Mine's an IS300 with the 2JZ in it. I've not seen more than 25 to the gallon, in fairness it's nearer 20.

I do really like it as a drive though, the front end is great. Not sure the 200 with 50 horses less would be as good though.

I knew the SXOC wouldn't let me down!

Ian. Pm replied - looks awesome but I fear the thirst of the 3.0 v6 turbo! Esp as I do tend to have heavy feet...

Arry: I don't make that much to pay to fuel a supercharged v8 and feed my family! And pay for a house. And get bits for the Evo. Which is NOT going anywhere - had several offers on it all turned down.

Chris: starting to look that way... How's it going mate?

Dlowe: I know but see re: aforementioned heavy feet!

Johnny et al: looked at the is200 and found a nice 300 and even a trb BEAMS one! Serious consideration being given. No particular hurry but I'm just impatient!

Here's a left field one. I do rather like the facelifted Nissan Cube... Kaizen model with space invader graphics for preference

If your considering the focus St the difference in fuel to the S60r / v70r should be minimal, but the comfort is leagues ahead (comparing our old xc70 to mates recarro trimmed St)

Fair point. A quick squiz on eBay and both the s60r and v70r seem to be beyond my budget. The focus can be had for circa 2007 with less than 100k for under £4k. This would leave me a bit to put toward other things that need to be done.

Dammit. Short of a miracle or a massive co-incidence, it looks like Bex is going to get her way again at this rate!

I would say get a nice Accord Type R and save a bit on your budget but I fear the seats and ride would give you similar problems to that which you're already having.

Since you already have the evo for fast fun...... What about a different kind of fun?

A pay and play day is a shit-ton cheaper than a track day. But bloody epic entertainment

    Should just about do 30mpg

Get the Focus, miles more fun than a Volvo I drove a C30 T5 and the steering wheel was the same size that you find in a Transit Newer Volvos have upped their game, the V40R is very nice but the age you are looking at they are still old mans cars

Oh and you will never see 30mpg more like 20-25.

If you have back problems you should probably drive a few cars before setting on which one to buy.

You might find some seats are painful and some are brilliant.

Agree if you have back trouble try a few,

My old man can't drive most ford's. But is comfortable in a vauxhall astra, whereas I find the offset steering wheels give me shoulder issues after a while

They're also well equipped, comfortable, and a really nice steer.

ive only ever drifted them so cant really comment on what they are actually like to use as a proper car. heated seats are nice and warm though.

    what about a facelift saab 93 2.8 V6 turbo aero 4wd.

sporty cars tend to have stiff suspension/seats so maybe look at a fast wafty car.
