    Viscous fan seized

    Hello people,

It looks like my viscous fan has now seized. I was contemplating switching to electric, but after a good search on here it seems as though the general consensus is that it'll offer no, or very little difference.

According to my mechanic, I need a new fan and coupling (behold my technical knowledge ).

So, my question is: In order to stop my car sounding like a SAAB, and also prevent it getting bogged down on acceleration, does anyone know what the part codes are so I can contact Nissan (£££), or is anyone selling one?

I've had a look in the For Sale section, and not seen anything.

    Thanks in advance

how do you mean "its seized"
    what is?
The water pump is driven by the belt and the fan turns with the water pump.

Ian200 - You should be able to spin the fan freely with the engine off, but I can't now.

I was looking at going that route, but not sure which is best for the car, or my wallet

one of the advantages of ditching the std fan and cowling is it free's up a good amount of space in the engine bay, bit more room to get your arms in doing other thnigs.

If you're doing the fan why not look at an upgraded rad as well? as your fans not completely broken just stuck on you can still drive it around plenty and in the mean time save up.

I ordered a viscous fan from Rock Auto for a KA24. The viscous coupling is all that you need to change and worked out to only £18 delivered.

The only thing you need to do is drill out 4 new mounting holes as the machined holes won't fit on the CA18, and swap the fan onto the new coupling. Including cleaning up the origional fan it took maybe 30 minutes to strip out the old one, drill out the new one, reassemble and refit.

A new fan from Nissan? You'd be cheaper off buying a 350Z...get one from a breaker, take the old one off (4 nuts). Take some thinner and clean the one you bought to make it nice and white and put it back on, job done
