    S14 Q's to S15 HLSD Conversion Questions

    Hi everyone,

I've been looking into updating my diff in my Q's to the Helical LSD from an S15 Spec R.

My question is this: has anyone done this conversion and/or knows exactly the differences in diff internals/output shafts/pumpkin of the S14 and S15?

As far as I am aware, the only parts needed for this conversion are the HLSD itself and output shafts of the S15 which SHOULD match up to my existing axles, while the ring gear bolts right onto the HLSD.

This my first time touching the diff of an S chassis, so please bear with me!

    Many thanks!

Have a read of this topic where I was looking at a Quaife Helical and the S15 conversation came up.

Hi, be careful as I'm pretty sure the S14 Q's came with an R180 rather than an R200, so nothing is going to swap over. Better off buying a complete diff if you can.

For the money you really can't beat the S15 HLSD on a road car.

Okay, I'll look further into that. There seems to be a real lack of information when it comes to Q's differentials.

Am I correct in thinking that if it is an R180, the axles and hubs will need replacing as well as the entire diff?

Hi again, so I got under the car and tried to take a few pictures (not the greatest, sorry). I'm almost certain it's an R180, but can anyone confirm this? Obviously, this will mean I can't get an S15 HLSD without swapping subframes and getting an R200 and propshaft (probably won't do that).

Yes, that's an R180, subframe swap required.

I've heard R180s are okay for acceptable power if you upgrade the internals; been looking at KAAZ's offering and considering just keeping what I've got and getting their 2 way diff?

The plan was to swap in the SR20DET once I've got one ready and keep my drivetrain, if that's advisable. I'm not going to go for a ton of horsepower (no more than 250-300) or torque.

Personally I'd swap the subframe and take the opportunity to replace the bushes at the same time.

Okay, say I did that, would I be able to keep my propshaft and axles? As in, would the R180 axles and propshaft bolt directly onto the new R200 assembly? It's surprisingly hard to find info on this, so thanks for your help

    Axles yes.

It looks like yous is an ABS diff, so any ABS prop should fit.

I wonder if offset diff bushings are available anywhere, that would be an easy option

Hmm okay, you don't happen to know if R200 axles would work with my 4 lug hubs, do you? Just worried about the spline count.

And yeah, I do have an ABS diff.

Gotcha. So the order is R200 diff, subframe and output shafts? Then a different prop, probably from an S14a?

    Thanks again

Yes - complete diff with output shafts and subframe. You should be ok with your prop.
