Kuga. Seriously; much nicer inside, less annoying beepy gadget crap, better sat nav, better specced, more comfortable, better steer, less cabin noise, more oomph, better gearbox, better driving position. The list goes on.

Here was my X Trail review. Different car I know, but most of the foibles also apply to the Squashkai.
1000 mile, 10 day review of the fully loaded (hired!) Nissan X-Trail.
Overall verdict - hated it, absolutely everything I despise about modern cars. If this is what 31 grand buys you these days and people are willing to pay it, more fool them.
Engine - rough and agricultural. Not particularly fuel efficient, it achieved about 40mpg without really being driven that hard, albeit I'm sure i gave it a harder time than most. Horrific flat spots low down, asthmatic up high, like a rubber band anything in between. Noisy, especially at motorway speeds.
Gearbox - not that bad actually despite a van like shift from 1st to 2nd.
Interior - 7 seats but two of them are for kids only. Folded away they take up too much boot space. Rear leg room good, but slide them forward to give more boot space then it's back to being crap. Full of scratchy plastics and rattling already at 9,000 miles. Hate to think what it'll be at 90,000.
Ride / handling - terrible. Like a Pogo Stick on steroids. Horrible front damping with huge pitch on the brakes, practically sea sick most of the time. In the bends it grips OK if you trust it but that trust takes ages, as it's interfered with by the electric steering which is speed sensitive - so you get a change in steering feel even mid corner if you're pushing on. The wheel feels dead to any feedback whatsoever.
Brakes - grabby over-servo-assisted and yet surprisingly uninspiring when you really do need to stop, especially paired with the pitching forwards from the poor suspension.
Equipment - how anyone pays 5 grand extra to be beeped at constantly and inconvenienced every time you drive it I just don't know. Lane detection, blind spot monitors, auto braking, speed limiting, and overzealous cameras and sensors on every corner can FRO. It beeps so much, even with the majority of it turned off, that you just end up ignoring the beeps which makes them absolutely pointless and therefore even more annoying. Parking Assist is comical at best. By the time you got that to work you will have some angry people waiting behind you. And the sat nav? Well that's hilarious. Did the same destination 3 times and got 3 different routes. It plans routes on being eco friendly then takes you down the narrowest roads you've ever seen where you're crawling round bends and reversing up every 5 mins as someone is coming the other way. Try to get it to plan a main road route? May as well be conducting brain surgery.
3/10 being kind. Glad to hand the ridiculously oversized gadgety POS back to Enterprise.
Speak to teSte, he ran a cashcow for a while as a familymobile/workhorse iirc.
My neighbour has a Kuga, there are actually loads of them round here blocking up the roads and I must say that it seems to be owned by the sort of people that just can't afford a RR Sport or RR of any sort - snobby, I've got a softroader I can park wherever the fcuk i want type people. No nothing of the quality except next door has raved about theirs in the past.
Whoa, how ****ing bad is the satnav in the Quashquai if the Kuga's is better?! Jeebus!
Bad. Very very bad.
I miss the old SXOC where we used to have a proper witch hunt and burnings for anyone who even hinted that liking something scrabbly or diesel or French

Put it this way, I've owned a range sport for the last 5 years (had enough of being raped for road tax!). I'm now buyin a kuga based on my years of working as a mechanic for Nissan, ford and jlr. As said before I've looked at a lot of the 4x4 (I use the term loosely) stuff on the market atm for a replacement and compared to xtrails and qashqai's, lexus, kia etc and the Ford kuga is the better put together, build quality car. Best to go for titanium x 2.0 diesel in manual. As one thing ford have never really mastered is the automatic gearbox lol! All my opinion of course!
Better yet by my Range!!

QQs now been knocked on the head.
Arry, could your view have been tainted by stepping out of a porker ?
Any other suggestions for a high ride, nice spec car that's not a van/truck ?

Errr, maybe a Kuga?
Yeah yeah but no. It was just a really shit car. The pointless overzealous 'Driver Aids' were stupid and the whole thing was just appalling to drive.
My friend has a Kuga - about a 2012 plate I think. It's a much nicer place to be inside and feels much more together.
Just tell him to get a Kia Sportage, they're very very OK.
