Qashqai advice - no its not for me :p

SXOC massive. Talk to me about the Qashqai.

I know what they are and that they are popular and made in the UK but...

Is there anything to watch for ?

My "friend" is looking at around 10-15K for a post-2013 crossover.

I'm thinking a 1.6 DIG-T Tekna is the way to go as he doesn't do that many long journeys so a 1.5 diesel will clog up the particulate filter and the Tekna because it'll be nicer place to be.

Any advice or tips or particular features to avoid or look out for ?

    Ta.

We have a 09 1.6 petrol qashqai and as much as the gf loves it, we find it very juicy for what it is especially around town.

We get about 30mpg average and it's awful on the m'way and really could do with a 6th gear. At 70 it will sit at about 4.5k revs.

Wish we got the diesel personally!

That's the old 1.6 though, right ? The DiGT is a much more modern engine if I'm right ?

What is the build quality like ?

EDIT: According to Auto Express, the 2.6 DiG-T is better than the outgoing 2.0 petrol by 16 mpg. It makes 163 bhp vs. 113 from the old 1.6

Tbh i haven't looked into the newer ones or their engines all i know is ours is terrible on fuel.

As far as build quality we have had it just over a year and it has needed nothing.
Last 2 mot's went straight through with no advisories, and we haven't needed to do anything to it other than giving it a full service!

Tbh we love the car itself it's just the fuel consumption that lets it down for us!

Let us know how he gets on

I've seen at least two or three with a broken tailgate handle's,like ripped off broken, either mongo owners or a hint towards build quality?
I know nothing about them tbh, other than out braking them and laughing at how slow they corner
they are so not my weapon of choice, and now it turns out they do 30 mpg they are even worse than I thought
then top of that list of dogs as well, must be something else to buy? (like the Lexus that is top of the other list)

Yeah. The Kuga doesn't drive like a ****ing turd.

Did I not regale to you the tale of the hired X Trail? Horrid, horrid thing.

Qashqai feels much more like a car to drive though, whereas the Xtrail feels like it was built by an American.

I've driven at least a dozen qashqais, both petrol and diesel. The old petrol engine is absolutely garbage and returns the same fuel economy as my X5! Don't know anything about the new petrol engines. The diesels do 40-45mpg and although the engines are noisy and a bit agricultural, they're fine as long as they're well serviced. Build quality isn't bad although not great. I wouldn't expect bits to just start falling off it, unless you were to drive it like a spastic. They ride ok, turn corners ok and they're quick enough for the sort of person who usually wants to drive a qashqai.

Don't let the DPF thing put you off the diesels - any custom exhaust place will gut the DPF and map it out so you don't get warning lights for about £400 all in, so not the end of the world like most folk assume. My mate does it regularly (Simon's custom exhausts).

can't believe anyone buys a Qashqai, dog ugly is an understatement. And the sportly nismo version is like putting make up on a pig, but its still a pig

It's the car of choice for people who want to be labelled a 'yummy mummy'
or in more plain language "A stupid stuck up bitch who wants a car to reflect her oversized ego"

Like when a bloke buys a flash Audi or a Range Rover.

You're right, I thought they were the one and the same, and having checked online I can confirm the nismo version I had in mind is a duke. Qashqai is a pig though, the duke is a frog

    Lol at yummy mummy.

My friend is a fairly portly, balding truck mechanic in his 60s

He's getting rid of a LS200-type pick-up and wants a family size car with a lofty riding position.
