How to => SR20DET clutch and flywheel on CA18DET

    Hello!

Yes, it is possible and it's not complicated!

    The advantages:

    - Choice of brands and models
    - Lower prices for flywheel
    - Not obliged to mount disks with ceramic pads for the
the power of a stage 3 (~ 300ch) thanks to the larger disk diameter
    (225mm // 210mm on CA18DET)

To perform the transplant, you should have:

    - an SR20DET lightweight flywheel (cheap on ebay)
    - A clutch kit for SR20DET
    - 8 bolts for VM SR20DET (shorter)
    - A CA18ET starter (S12)
    - A slice of 2mm thick for the clutch pivot
    - a grinder

So that the clutch passes requires:

    - Grinding the two bosselages who are in the wrong box:

    - grind the small ergot brass centering on the crankshaft
    - Using bolts SR20DET because they are shorter (those stocks
would stop in net in the crankshaft)
    - changing the starter by an CA18ET S12 because the original
    touch the flywheel

!!!!!!!!!!! Beware... the CA18ET starter hit against the
intake manifold brace, it must be grind a little bit!!!!!!!!

    - We must also put two pucks behind the clutch pivot

For the rest is a classic change of clutch and flywheel

PS: Beware for my setup I use a kit F1 racing (flywheel +
Clutch) the holes for the 8 bolts on the flywheel were 12mm (instead of 10mm on SR20DET as CA18DET)

And I must do some spacers to achieve the right diameter.

    Excuse my english...

    A +

Wow, does this really work? If it does, I wonder why it's not widely-used conversion
"And I must do some spacers to achieve the right diameter." - please explain

yes, it work! I have done the clutch / flywheel swap this week-end!

"And I must do some spacers to achieve the right diameter."

It's a problem with the F1 racing flywheel!!!

The holes in the flywheel are too big 12mm instead of 10mm on a stock one.

You can machine the standard SR flywheel to fit

Also, why do you need to put shim behind clutch pivot?

Because the SR20DET pressure plate is 5mm closest the engine compared to CA18DET.

believe he modded the standard starter to fit (grinding some metal away) rather than using an s12 one too.

Nice work. Always wanted to try this but never quite got round to it

He would have had to grind the pinion gear as the teeth a different pitch.
S14 fly has a bigger diameter gear ring, but less teeth.
Papa found that out when he put the triple plate that I now have on his SR.

I've seen people on nico say it graunches slightly but does work. Maybe it works with SR fly on CA but not the other way round???

i think bren actually modded an s14 starter to fit the ca.
we had it here for a wee while as we tried to do what the poster has done here.
Cut off one of the bolt holes and re-welded it along a bit iirc

however none of the listed stuff was the problem with the 14 clutch/fly combo.

the problem was that when the gearbox was fitted on the thing couldnt move cos the cover was hitting the bellhousing.
As Ben said, Gary got passed this by fitting a twin plate clutch which had a thinner cover plate i believe.

Yeah doesnt work on all clutches it seems, as Kev and Kieran found out.

I've ordered a S14 twin plate, (went for the 204mm one not the 215mm one) for my S13, and have the modded starter, and the fly bolts.

So single-plate SR20 clutch (like RPS Max Street) won't work on CA18DET?
