Thumbs up Bass how low can you go?

    Hi peeps,
I've just decided to overhaul the sound system, I have a pioneer 6000r head unit witch Im gonna keep cos I like it, question is what speakers and amps do you think are the best in a 200sx s13? The 1st thing Im looking to do is upgrade the 6 year old bass tube and 45 watt amp in the boot, then move onto the rear speakers and then the fronts. have any of you found any ingeaniouse ways of siting tweeters in the front without them standing out like a soar thumb? I also like lots of bass so what are your recomendations for this? chears guys.

Hiya Nat, personally, I dont think you can beat Kenwood for decently priced amps and subs, I mean, if you check out the magazines, a sub and amp can be bought for under £200. Pretty decent price I think.
How much bass do you like? Are we talking major SPL or a couple of 10's?
I have two 10's running off a mono amp, whih is plenty for me.

    Hey Nat,

A mate of mine is a professional stereo fitted and he can guide you, or go to the car adio centre in Berko' high street.

Just got and fitted a vortex amp and a new bass box which only just fits. the amp is 100w RMS per channel so I bridged both channels and voila loud bass. put bob marley on and the rear view mirrow became unusable and slim shadey rattles the windows. next a speaker change front and rear. Might take you up on that offer Paul, thinking about getting some kenwood stuff like steve suggested.

I do recommend kenwood amps but the component set I fitted was supposed to be their top of the range, but sounded horrible, got me a set of MB-Quarts front 6.5" components for around £120 and they sound the ****** with a jbl amp.

Just for your info I have four 12" subs in the rear, 6x9's rear shelf and 6.5" components up front, lovely sound with bags-o-bass !

how in the name of knickers have you fitted four 12" subs in the rear? by my reckoning, in a proper enclosure 10"s might go but clearance under the parcel shelf would be none existant, especially with 6x9' magnets reaching down 4 or 5 inches.
I would like 12" in mine but dont want to compromise the bass, I use Vibe 10" at the moment, which although sound as good as any decent 12" I would really like the 12" vibe in there, Just incase i ever want to smash my back window out!

But looking at it, without removing the spare wheel and smashing the floor to bits, theres no way even one would fit in the correct enclosure so it would sound pants.

nathan - what size subs are in your box?

Chimp, it's a 10" (20 if the misses is looking) infinity. When I first got it I couldnt fit it in. so ended up hacking all my sound dedening up to get that extra 6mm required to stop me popping the window out when closing the boot.

Dear chimp, my subs are designed to work in a sealed 0.68 cuft enclosure so four will fit easily without the spare wheel which I always remove to save weight, plus I put the 6x9's on 1" thick mdf over the top of the parcel shelf to enable clearance, we have ways of making you fit !!!

I will take a pic. and post for your perusal.

    Thumbs up

Hey, nowt wrong with Bagpuss, he's sitting on my parcel shelf too! I've also got a 12" Maystar sub in a ported enclosure in the boot, which pokes through a 12" hole in my parcel shelf between two Kenwood 7x10s.
Chimp they dont cost too much either - £40 each down at the local A1 Motor stores.

And don't they sound good for £40, I'd have quite happily paid double for the sound !!! (but then again not if I don't have to)

I'll have to try and listen to those Maystar some time. I'm about to fit the 6.5" Focals and tweeters in the front of mine. I've got a Rockford Fosgate 12" in a sealed box in the boot but fancy getting a couple of new 10's or 12's. Was gonna go for Precision Power subs but am open to suggestion.

Have a look at the price of the Focals that I bought. Couldn't believe it.

    Olly,
How did you fit the MB Quartz 6.5" in your door. Did you have to make up MDF baffles? I started fitting my Focals last night. Gave up trying to get the new rather large speaker cable through the existing rubber cableway to the door. Ended up tie-wrapping and taping the speaker cable to the side of it. Got the tweets mounted and crossovers in place. Just need to make up some baffles to hold the mids (unless you can suggest otherwise) run new cable to the crossovers and BOOOOM!! (I hope)
