Have you still got the standard head unit or have you changed it? If its been changed did you use an autoleads adaptor or did you chop into the stereo wiring loom. If you chopped into the wiring loom did you use scotch-locks? These are renowned for not making proper contact and coming loose.

sounds like a loose wire to the head unit causing static interference, check it and solder them if scotched . if its an adapter plug chec to see if theyve come loose, check the earthing is ok and that the leads are ok - it may also be the aerial connection to the back of the set- mine did that until I gave a bit more freedom to the aerial lead.
