looking at the picture I think you're supposed to block both ways. Cut the pipe in half and block both halves. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think thats the easy way (depending how easy it is to get to the pipe).

I just cut the pipe in half and put a screw in both ends.

    Seems to work fine....

oke, I removed the pipe. Cutting it in half didn't seem wise to me, cause there is not much room back there, so I took it of the EGR(using some WD40, cause it wouldn't go so easy).
I blocked it off using a drill bit and a small jubilee. Then I used a short silicon pipe (the blue one in the picture), blocked one end off with a drill bit and a jubilee and put the other end on the EGR (I actually used some glue because there wasn't room to put a jubilee on it and I wasn't sure if there is pressure on it and I don't want it to pop off)

I did a test drive and didn't get hesitations, but then again it was a short drive, so I'll know better in a few weeks I guess, but other then that it seems to run fine.

having spoken to a garage before i did the change, you dont need to worry about the now exposed erg valve as in effect you have now simply cut this out of the equation, and this valve is now closed and therefore you dont need to block it at all. So simply sealing the long pipe that led from the erg does the trick. I wouldnt recommend cutting it, 1 because you dont need to, and 2 because until the next MOT I wont know if it needs reconnecting to meet the emisions level!

Is it possible to get a clearer pic of the hose that it is meant to be cut?

you dont cut the hose !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you take it off the EGR end and block it, the valve is then de-activated and wont work

its easy to spot, locate the tube that goes from the Ex mani round the back of the engine. The valve on the other end of it is the EGR, take the tube off the top of it

just study the picture on page 1 of this topic and you can figure it out, cant really mis it. and besides that its the only tube you have access to, if you ask me, I was glad it didn't have one of those clamps or jubilee's on it.

After my miserable failure to change my turbo gaskets last weekend I entrusted the job to my well qualified spanner monkey. He hacked the EGR pipe off at the manifold end with much muttering of "f***ing emissions, f***ing government, f***ing waste of f***ing time this f***ing exhaust recirculation s**t" and so on.

I'm not going to hook it back up

i bunged up the pipe that goes to the valve that is higher than that one and to the right of it, surely its better to block off the pipe going to the system, rather than the one that goes between the two valves?

    Link sorted.

The way I understand it, from decyphering this thread, the pipe to remove is the one on the EGR valve not the EGRC-BPT valve that you're talking about.

However, if someone wants to state catagorically that its the pipe to the EGRC-BPT valve, I'll make the relavant amendments.

if you bung up the pipe to the EGRC-BTP valve, you're theoretically disabling both - sorted...

    what is the EGRC-BTP valve?!
