Is it illegal to carry a full gerry can in your boot?
Hello,
Just wondered if its illegal to carry a full Gerry can in your boot? In case you run out of fuel. Lots of people reckon its is. How come the AA/RAC can carry them (or do they have a special licence?)

I think that there is a limit to the amount of fuel you can carry. Might be 5 litres.

That's probably why most fuels cans happen to be 5L ....

Possibly, but that's why i said it, was a guess really but I'm sure there are strict rules about how much petrol you can carry or even store at your house and it's quite a small amount.

I remember during the fuel protests reading something about it? I think it was 5 litres. But then you had Taxi drivers filling their garages with jerry cans of fuel...

I think it is 5 litres. I remeber doing a Hazmat ( Harzourdous Materials and Carriage) course at the MOD and they were saying if you didnt have the Hazmat licence it was illegal to carry round a jerry can fillled with fuel.
Not sure if the same law still applies.
