Cool The clutch, seals and fluids job!

This is the most money, actually the only money apart from servicing that I have spent on Big Red in the last 12 years. But if doing a job, I like to do it right. Or I should say, get it done right.

As recommended on the forum, I went with an ACT organic clutch this time. My Exceedy organic was slipping like a drunk on ice.

    - ACT Organic street performance kit. (Clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearing, pilot bearing and alignment tool).
    - Refurbished replacement standard flywheel. (Machined, balanced and painted).
    - Nissan flywheel bolts.
    - ARP clutch pressure plate bolts.
    - Engine rear crank shaft oil seal. (Nissan)
    - Gearbox rear oil seal. (Nissan)
    - Gearbox front oil seal. (Nissan)
    - Gearbox drain plug. (Nissan)
    - Gearbox fill plug. (Nissan)
    - Diff drain plug. (Nissan)
    - Diff fill plug. (Nissan)
    - Gearbox oil (Red Line MT-90 75w90 GL4).
    - Differential oil (Kaaz limited slip diff oil 80w90 GL5).
    - Clutch fluid flushed and bled.

When the box was off I may as well do as much preventative maintenance as I can. And genuine parts are such good value from EFI Solutions in Oz.

I wasn't sure if the ones on it were butchered or not, and for a few quid extra, why not get new genuine Nissan ones I thought! :-) And they are pennies compared to the overall full cost of the job. Should do me for another 15 years at least now.

On a side note, I always found the Exceedy clutch heavy compared to standard. But the ACT is light, I can't remember what standard felt like now, but I dare say that this is not much heavier. And that is even with the ACT clutch being rated for higher torque than my old Exceedy.

    To follow and on order:

    - Clutch master cylinder (Nissan).
    - NISMO big bore clutch slave cylinder.
    - Braided clutch line to remove the clutch restrictor/ dampener.
    - Gearbox gearstick oil boot (Nissan).
    - Gearstick retaining c-clip (Nissan).
    - Gearstick bushing (Nissan).
    - Tail shaft nuts and bolts. (Nissan).
    - Gearbox mount bolts.* (Nissan).

*As an example of price, these bolts are 30 quid a piece here, not including P&P. But from Japan, they are 7 quid each. (P&P and import to be added).

I loved the ACT clutch I had. Easily in a par with my nismo clutch

It was actually your comments in the other thread that sold it to me. So thanks! It is heavier duty clutch than my old Exceedy, but yet with a light pedal. It feels really nice!

Replaced two gearbox mount nuts and bolts. (It was half the price all to buy these in Japan than here or the UK. FFS!)

Since the new clutch went in before Christmas, I wanted to complete the pm on that side of the car. So brand new Nissan clutch master cylinder, and a NISMO big bore slave cylinder which should reduce peddle weight by 20%. Replaced the clutch damper circuit with a simple braided line, direct from the master to the slave.

Nice, I recently changed my gearbox & diff oil for the redline stuff.
Probably need to start looking at a clutch next as it’s an original 75k miles

I have to say that the ACT clutch that I had fitted before Christmas is very night. Way, way lighter clutch peddle than the Exeedy that I had before.

All this was removed. 9 parts in total, all replaced by the 3 parts above. So lightness was added!

It is a piece of piss to bleed the system now. I had my little girl in the car operating the clutch with me under the car bleeding it. Also the clutch feels so much lighter now which is brilliant. And I don't feel any negatives by removing the damper.

And for all you jammy gits out there that have garages big enough to work in, this is what I was dealing with.... it may have been lovely and sunny, but it was windy, and the fecking leaves had me driven mental! There are sockets and spanners laid out on the ground here... somewhere......

    Nice work with the photos,
I’ve got a braided hose for the clutch line in the spares department I bought on a group buy on here many years ago
Can’t make out how many bolts are needed for the clutch cover

Yeah I had the above parts for the last 7 months, and I have parts in the attic for the last 4 years still on my "to do" list! ;-) I'm trying to get the finger out this summer and do stuff.

There are 9x clutch cover bolts and washer. See here:

    https://www.efisolutions.com.au/arp-...s-washers-sr-r

And when you are doing the clutch, remember to get a new release bearing and pilot bearing too. (Or get a kit that they come in.)

And just for reference in the future, there are 8x flywheel bolts:

    https://www.efisolutions.com.au/flyw...-180sx-s14-s15

(I'm getting everything from EFI as even with shipping and import duty from Oz, they are so much cheaper than anywhere else that I can find. And quick to ship! :-) )

That is the exact kit that I had fitted last November. It contains everything that you need, even comes with stickers ;-). And it feels like a lovely clutch, so much lighter than the Exceedy that it replaced.
