    Gearbox tailshaft movement?

My prop rubber went and the tailshaft started leaking oil badly. I've changed the prop bearing and rubber and I'm about to change the tailshaft seal but I've noticed a surprising amount of movement in the tailshaft. Is it supposed to be like that? There were no sounds from the gearbox before this happened. It did pop out of 4th occasionally though.

I've noticed this too, on three different boxes.
I think it's fine because when the prop is engaged on the tailshaft, the tailshaft is supported via the propshaft by the brass bush in the end of the tailshaft housing.
    At least I think so.
