Well trick, well done matey.
You could use wireless Keyboard & Mouse or install a mic and some voice command software. Hmm Voice control very trick.
BTW: You can get some very good PC based Satnav software with voice command these day's.

that is super cool - well done dude
Its gone!
When I got the car all it had in it for music was a naff stereo “the one I chopped up to cover the LCD ”
So I had the bits laying around so I thought why not
So fare the cost hasn’t been that bad.
I got 2 PSone Screens for £49 each from HMV one for my computer and one for my car as they can use composite in so any card with video out will work with it “get them to order you one if your interested as there discontinued and once there gone there gone”
The remote interface I made myself and only cost about £3 to build so that worked out well as you can use any control you like so I used an old camcorder remote as it was nice and small.
The Perspex wasn’t the cheapest at £23 for a big sheet of the stuff as you can’t get a small bit so you have to buy this big sheet of the stuff I have planes for the rest of it now though
The PC was build out of bits I had laying around so I can’t really put a price on that.
The inverter set me back £20 for a 400v one “good deal”
So all in all it wasn’t really that much for what it can do.
Ok now for what it can do
At the mo I have on it
About 6000 mp3s
2 seasons of scrubs
About 15 films
USB Radio receiver
TV card for well TV
To get GPS for USB so I can have well GPS “mapline do a GPS USB add-on for about £110”
And anything else like hook my cars ECU up to it and anything else I can think of
I also wouldn’t mind having it on all the time to control a car alarm if it can be done
Also thanks for the nice feedback guys there will be more to come
Yeager I’ll pup down to the MK meet as soon as I have the car on the road as at the mo I have no insurance but that should be sorted in the next week

Dude, that looks sweet. A nice custom job... The next step on from modding a pc to go in your living room (seen the one that's inside a vcr shell?)
Good job.
This is me taking camouflage to a whole new level
Looks like a normal tape player with a tape sticking out
That should do it
ooooh thats the best bit. Can I snag these from you? What quality are they in?Originally posted by M pro
2 seasons of scrubs

How about this for an idea. Install a wireless network card and have another at home. So if you want to upload new software just pull up into your garage and zap.
Already thought of thatOriginally posted by Nick

Its on the list to do later on
I've got a wireless newtork at home and this sounds like an amazing idea, never really thought what the possiblities could be.
MP3's
Films
Wireless
GPS
Internet via blutooth phone, can you get a small size blutooth keyboard you could use with the PC?
Voice recognition, phone dialer, menu system
Get a really good sound card , Sound blaster 5.1 for full surround sound, you would need at least three amps, but it would be great to tweek and play with,
Graphic equaliser
What about using the PC to monitor boost pressure, oil temp, etc, etc, Could give audible warnings, max boost, speed, etc, etc
If fact use it to piggy back onto the EMC, that would be a bit tricky
Will def be looking into this
What kind of quality to you find with the TV tuner? And what sort of aerial do you use (is it possible to tap into the radio's aerial or does that use some other kind of system?).Originally posted by M pro
TV card for well TV
I'm really interested in this (I've seen one of those in-dash DIN sized tft screens for sale on eBay for £160 and thought I might splash out on one of those matched with a mini itx PC in the boot). The screen's sound outputs can go into the V-Link inputs on my Alpine head unit, so I can keep the head unit for serious music listening while I can have the AUX mode on the head unit to listen to films/tv/gps navigation etc from the PC.

That's well good mate!
You could have a screen saver with pictures from various pornos scrolling across the screen while you drive.....
Just to entertain passengers in the car of course!! *cough*
Great stuff M Pro, looks fantastic
Have you thought about having the PC monitoring and displaying some of the engine management information? Is that possible?
Top idea M pro.
Can you let me know when you are going to a meet next as I would love to see it for real.
I did something very similar to your camouflage idea about 15 years ago in my old Chrysler Avenger (showing my age!) Cut the face off the original "2 nob" stereo, glued it to a piece of aluminium with a piano hinge on and riveted it to the dash so that I could swing the fake front down over the relativetly decent stereo below. This was when most stereos were full pull out jobbies.
Oh I LOVE your disguise cover!!!! Sweet
Man this has really got me thinking now. What case have you used for the guts?
Dave
That's bloody marvellous mate!
Have just found this thread and am VERY interested. I am intending to this to my next car (when I get one!) as i can't see the point of installing such a kit to my current Citroen ( a ZX ).
I am off travelling for 12 - 15 months so I won't be getting a cnew car until a long time after I get back, but will continue to read this thread
I did look into other PC-into-Cars installations (see [MR2 PC) but the finished products always looked crude to me. Yours looks great and fits into its surroundings without being obtrusive.
Have you thought about using a wireless number pad (Looks like the numbers on the right hand side of a standard keyboard) for laptops as I think they can be configured to operate MP3 software such as WinAmp.
A couple of requests....
What software do you use to play MP3s.
Could you post some more pics of the entire setup. Ie pics of the PC in situ and so on. How is the PC wired into the power. Is it through the stereo's former live feed ?
Would you be able to do a rough step-by-step guide for those who would be temped to undertake such a project themselves? i.e. ME ME ME ME ME ME ME ME We want more info!
Sorry if this post appears too gratuitous / banal or if the questions are too obvious but this is one project I will be undertaking as soon as I can.
Keep up the excellent work and let us know of any other upgrades you make to the system!
imagine at a meet next year.... 5 200's all parked up, all wireless and all connected sharing files I could even setup a Shoutcast server and broadcast tunes each car could stream off me
802.11b 11Mbps radios sould be ok with diversy antenna's.....
Mount them on the rear shelf on each side
guess what business I'm in...lol
