I worked in design and manufacture for years, so the quality of design and material, or lack off, always has a nerdy interest for me. Especially in the most mundane things.
I picked up a spare ashtray for my SX years ago as I intended to fit a knock meter when our petrol went to dish water... and the quality of it and unnecessary cost of design gave me a nerd horn!
The ashtray....
- Lovely Bakelite body. Bakelite is a lovely material. The king of quality plastics.
- Cast aluminium inner lid.
- Quality outter plastic lid to match the car interior trim.
(ignore the holes cut)

But this little window is made from actual real frosted glass! Not plastic.
Good 1990s manufacturing! This was a dear item to make.
My original one will go into the attic for safe keeping.
