What oil for my built SR20DET

Hello everyone, I know this has probably been covered a million times but I wanted to ask what people recommended for certain mods etc

I have recently imported my S14 and the import company used Nanodrive CFS 10w60. I have no idea what’s currently in the box and diff

I am planning on changing all oils so want advice on them all please. The car is a weekend toy which will also be used for track and drift, it won’t be used over winter so only in warmer weather

I’m from the UK so bare this in mind when recommending oil brands etc

    Rough Engine specs….
(Currently 420bhp but plan on 500bhp next year)
I have a HKS oil filter ready to go on

    87mm hks pistons
    87mm Jun sleeves
    Tomei 270 procams
    Hks gt3040 turbo
Link ecu with 8k Rev limiter
I do have a thermostatic oil cooler fitted

    Gearbox….

OS Giken 1-3 close ratio gear set
Reverse grinds 50% of the time so I’m hoping new oil will help this

    Rear diff…

    Tomei 2 way

Here’s a pic of her too

This whole forum is primarily based in the UK.

It has been asked a million times as you say. For your engine, refer to this topic (among many) for some of the popular choices and reasons:

    https://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread....Oil-do-you-use

I ended up using Castrol Edge 10W-60 on my SR for a while, then Fuchs Silkolene 10W-50.

Tomei 2 way is likely to be GL-5 80W-90 as per standard diff. That's what's sold with the Technical Trax Advance units as well.

I'm not familiar with the gearset needing a specialist fluid, Redline MT-90 still appears popular these days and LW Shockproof for those with clunky gears or hard worked gears.

The normal fluid spec is GL-4 75W-90 and this was always fine for me on a track focused car.

Call Opie Oils or PM "oilman" on this board and they can offer more direct advice.

For the engine I use a fuchs Titan Pro S, think it might be 10w 50 and for the gearbox I use a Redline oil, shockproof, something like that.

    I can confirm later!

10w60 is treacle-thick! does it have oil pressure issues with normal 40wt or something? unless your bearing clearances are 'race-car wide' or you live in Death Valley, then 60wt is too thick, you'll be starving your bearings at high RPM....
Even 50wt is only really suitable for Track cars with increased bearing clearances etc....

I use Millers Nanodrive CFS 5w40 for every day driving and some drag racing. I believe a 50 or 60 weight is designed for better protection at higher oil temps at high revs (110-125 degrees C). I personally like 5w40 for a road car because it is thin enough to provide protection on start up and thick enough to take the odd track day etc without ending up like water

I think I've misread, it's a weekend car that will occasionally go on track. I read it as a weekend track car, hence comparisons to my old oil choices of 10W-60.

If it's a weekend car, 5W-40 all the way.

Yes I found a 15% one but it’s actually about another £10 cheaper ordering through opie oils on eBay

You should drain the cooler as well. Also consider the additional capacity the cooler has and if you have an enlarged sump or not.

I read the SR takes around 3.5 litres so I was hoping 5L would be enough to cover the addition cooler and lines. It has a stock size sump but I won’t be driving it over winter so if it’s not enough I will order another litre
