    RX7 prices?

I'm thinking of buying an FD RX7. I quite fancy one of the 280 bhp ones no too bothered about exact spec. How much do you think it would cost to have a proper company import one for me? A good condition one at that. I know there must be 1 or 2 owners on here.
    Cheers for any replies

Jesus. My mate had 3 or 4 FDs at one point, and countless spare parts, engines etc, sold the lot off earlier in the decade I believe. I get nightmares about selling my 14, I wonder what he's going through!

Still, I knew a guy with a UK manual TT Supra who sold it back in the recession when they were ~£10k. Ouchhhh.

I'll have a proper look at that ebay link later (7 month old child kicking off currently). Small amount of poor quality pics though for a £25K car, that could work in my favor though. I was hoping to be first UK owner of one but it doesn't matter if the money is right for one that's ben here a while. I'd quite like one as a weekend car as I don't see me getting rid of the daily 13 which never lets me down even in these snowy conditions.

It's a Newera imported car so it says. I could ask my mate to have a look at it and see if he remembers it.

Thanks for the offer but I fancy a standard one and that isn't. I know it's a long shot but I like my cars unmodified lol

I think I saw the Holy Grail of one of these the other day. I clearly remember trying to get my mate to buy a 22b Impreza in 2008/2010 as they were around 15/20K.
JM Imports have one at £135K atm, 2 have sold recently for ~£200K. YOWZA.

The arse has got to fall out of that sooner or later though. There can't be that many Japanese car geeks still out there with enough expendable cash to keep it all going

I remember with this were all fields etc etc - I did the same with a 964 turbo in 2006, would have needed a loan to get it, £25k at the time and bottled it. £120k+ now

I keep on thinking prices must drop but it seems that once they've got a certain 'gravity' to them, they tend to hold it since they're being held as assets with value, not just cars - ways of getting rid of cash balances, in a world of low inflation and rates of interest, to an asset with limited and decreasing supply.. not japanese car geeks any more but wealthy collectors.

I think the rarest examples of the FD will fit into that - it was definitely the 'halo' model of the rotary.
    white '94 s13 200sx scrapped - mapped to 1.45bar. OS giken box, garrett GT2876R, 950cc injectors, ORC twin plate, nistune. 349bhp/325lbft @ 1.3bar CA18DET
white '96 s13 180sx - type g with more kouki bits - RB25DET, GTR steel twin turbo conversion, RB26 crank & rods. 2.6L VVT twin turbo, SR20 OSG box, OSG STR twin plate clutch, Z32 ECU w/ nistune.

current status: 180 a bit broken but to be repaired.

TBF I've been looking again at 'future classics' since I did such a bang up job of predicting the last lot.......and never actually investing.

    I didn't buy an R34 GTR for £24,995 before I build my White S14 in 2012 because I didn't want to have a loan.

Same here. Wish I never sold any of the 205 GTI's. Balked at buying a Megane R26R for £4k. 3 years later they were £20k+. Not looked recently. Also chose not to buy an NSX for £25k 4 years ago. Stupid stupid stupid!

So my Evo 2 is going nowhere and I'm on the hunt for something that will probably (hopefully) go up significantly. Or a few somethings depending on how much they are and how much our house move ends up costing.

I'd love an FC or FD but they all seem to be silly money now. When a couple of years ago they were sub £10k...

My mate is currently hunting for an Evo 6 TME as these are rapidly going up in value. If I were to invest in a car sub-£10k now, it'd likely be a Celica ST205. Yes, they're made of pig iron, but the last of the racing heritage vehicles to go stratospheric!

It was a nail and not a proper stripe model - if I'd chanced upon a good one I could be in that position now....

Ah well, the 996 has been relatively kind to me.

Ah yeah, I bet the prices back then were sensible! Nowt wrong with being mid 30's and owning a rally car though

In 1988, I was offered a De Tomaso Pantera for £15K. I decided it was too extravagant and might not hold its value

To everyone beating themselves up its costing me £120+VAT per month to store my red car - the cheapest I found was £80 a month cash but with no real security, rodent defenses, air treatment etc.
You then will probably need to keep the service history up whether youre driving it or not, get it valeted once a year, keep it insured for theft ........

Best case thats £1300 a year so unless its something thats climbed astronomically you wont be seeing much profit, you might even have made a loss. Personal fave I saw the other day was Joe Madda who about 10 years ago bought a road legal R32 GTR for £4K just to rip then engine out and put it in a 200SX. Ouch.

Investment one thing, having a car that's relatively depreciation proof that you can still make a few quid on is golden. Albeit if the big bill comes then

I'm about ~£2k in the hole for the total cost of my 911 ownership so far. A large amount of that comes from fixing independent specialist mistakes (I got form, right )

I had half a sniff at a £60k F612 a few years back and looking at the prices now it seems I'd not have lost my shirt. Popping out for the weekend under V12 power is definitely appealing.
