Apex performance Gen1/Gen2 differences
Does anyone have any memory of the main way to tell the coilovers apart, I have 2 sets but can’t remember which are the newer version.
Looking fo a way to tell them apart...

I bet I’ve got all the pics of my Gen2s from my last build saved on my laptop somewhere. I can dig them out tomorrow if it helps.

Sounds great, that will help, I’m sure the ones in the box are newer but I’d like to check.

I’d say the ones in the box are newer versions too

IIRC, the Gen2s have two locking collars at each end and the Gen 1s only have one at the bottom ?
Sorry to be so vague. Have you done a search ? I'm sure its been asked before.
That would make the ones in the box Gen 1s.
EDIT: I'm right but I'm wrong. I've just looked through my archive of pics and the comfy Gen1s I had had 4 collars and the limo Gen2s I had only had 3 collars so the ones in the box are Gen 2s.

the gen 2 have the cutouts in the rear lower cups where you can see the threaded part of the damper unit.

That’s great lads,
I notice the fronts have an oval top hub mounting bolt hole for camber. I’m hoping this allows some positive camber too that wail move my wheel away from the coilover and take it back out with the top mount.
That’s the plan anyway.
I did use the search bar Johnny but found specs on the coilovers rather than differences between them
Read they are a bit smoother and better damping, hopefully that’s true as it must be gen 1 I have on the car which are still working well.

I did that camber trick with mine to give some room for wheel clearance with my apex coils

I’m so sorry chap. I’ve been sick and so not near my laptop.
I’ll dig pics out shortly. But Gen2s in 8F 6R on mine were firm and fun. Drove to Spa twice on them without complaints.

Yes that’s great, look like the ones in the box I think, rear lower mounts have the holes cut out, and front ones have the oval top mount hole.
Thank you for the help.

Definitely this...
2 lower collars = Gen 1
1 lower collar = Gen 2
When I compared my Gen 1 Comfies and my Gen 2 limos, that was the only visible difference I could see.

Oh, and you can tell whether they are limos (4/3), comfies (5/4), 6/5, 8,6 etc. by looking at the code on the spring. It gives the length, spring strength etc. as a code like 52 250 005.
In fact, you can see the code in the first two pictures that Piman posted.
