    Unhappy Best Tyres?

    Hello!

I woke up this morning to an unsettling sight! My front tyre has deflated and I'm not sure why, as I was driving it on Wednesday.

Now I've noticed a few things I don't like now that I've driven this car a bit, with the scariest being the rear end kicking out for no reason. I was going over a roundabout last Thursday and my rear kicked out violently, I brought the car under control quickly and carried on my way but it did shake me up a little (the ground was wet but still). Then on Wednesday, I go to give it some gas to catch up with traffic (as I was going 30 in a 60) then again the tail kicks out really bad and I had to do some pretty drastic counter-steering to keep it from spinning out.

My question is: is this the result of the tyres or just driver incompetence? I'm by no means new to driving and I have my pass plus and even taken performance driving training so I can struggle to see what I could be doing wrong here, but after seeing my tyre deflated this morning I'm not thinking it's the tyres that might have been causing the issue. What tyres do you recommend?

Here are some pictures of the tyres I'm using and of the now deflated tyre (the pictures were taken on the 28th when I was looking at potentially getting some new rims).

    Thanks!

    Ditchfinders and then some.

For a start you've mismatched tyres - P6000 and P4000 showing there in the pics. The Pirelli P range were never decent tyres to start with and - you'll get to know this with an S13 - the rear is pretty slide happy anyway, so if you're not used to it, you're going to have to get used to it or be backwards through some scenery

What age are those tyres? What do the date stamps say?

My guess is the car had some snazzier wheels and got returned to standard, and the tyres you're staring at are a decade or so old having sat in a garage.

    Hello!

Yeah, no kidding about the ditch finders part! I went out with a torch and can't find anything related to dates at all. So really I'm not sure on the age, the tread depth seems pretty decent, I search the full tyre wall but couldn't find anything sadly.

The tyre date will look like this:

As for current tyres to recommend - looking at Camskill (other options available)

    https://www.camskill.co.uk/m53b0s411...0_15_195_60R15

There's various high brand tyres available for not much more than £70 a corner fitted.

What you buy really comes down to how you drive and in what weathers, along with the affinity you have with experience of tyres on other cars. Don't get hung up on it per se, but just research a bit and make a choice.

Oh I see, I think my tyres are from 2018 then which might explain it. I'll see about getting 4 new tyres from this site. They can all be the same size right? So I can just by 4 of the same.

Conti PremiumContacts are good and they come in 195/60/15

I had them on my S13 and they worked well with 250bhp

Unlikely. If they're 2018 tyres then that is even more weird.

Goodyear Asymmetrics are good in the wet, I’ve got the newest versions and would recommend them as another option for you too

Don't think they come in 195/60/15

Tyre choice is limited even if you go 205/55/15 which is the only other close choice for a standard 6J wheel. Otherwise, he's looking at new wheels and will they fit over the brakes, with or without spacers... yadda, yadda, yadda

You can still buy them, Arry

OP, they were shit tyres when they were first introduced and tyre technology has moved on considerably...and they are fecking expensive

The Contis are pretty reasonable, pricewise.

xxxOops Sorry thats a duff link to 195/65/15s. EDITTED

That's not what I meant mate - I mean, seriously, who the hell went out to actually BUY those tyres for it

I just assumed they'd be ancient and had sat in the garage for years.

Get a decent alignment or at least your alignment checked, i have just fitted Michelin pilot sport 4 on the back of mine with 400ish bhp and they're amazing so far.

    Hey!

I just had a man come out and change the tyre so I can drive it down to a garage tomorrow for some brand new toy proxies CF2s.

Apparently, my tyres are 18 years old! To think I drove this car all the way home (80 miles) from york. The man who sold me this told me these were new tyres haha!

That's what I suspected. Those wheels have been stuck at the back of the garage for a long, long while.
