    S14 Silvia Q's brake differences?

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently importing my first S chassis (A 1997 Silvia Q's) and it's struck me that due to its 4 lug setup, the brakes must be different to the S14 200sx sold here.

Does anyone have any info regarding this or where I may buy brake items in the UK? I'm really hoping I won't have to buy from Japan, but if so I'll be going to a 5 lug conversion sharpish.

    Many thanks,

    Ollie

As long as you buy front knuckles as well, you should be fine. Because I don't think the 4 pot calipers will fit the 4 stud hubs.

The 4 pot calipers are the same between 200sx and k's

I would likely be getting new calipers too, the plan is to stick a DET in there soon too. Going to need more stopping power at some point.

So you reckon I could use 200sx pads in the Q's calipers?

No, the 4 pot and single pot pads are completely different. For the bigger brakes you'll need discs and pads as well

There's a member on here called Hamish_N (Hamish Niven on Facebook) whose bread and butter side income is brake parts for 200s. He can source and supply standard 4 pot Sumitomo's, GTST, Z32 etc brakes for you.

Plenty of knuckles for sale on Facebook marketplace too to help you out. I'll even have a set for sale early next year.

But on that, be careful buying balljoints online as some are advertised as 200SX of a certain year but are actually US Sentra model fitment, which is all of nack all good to you

Thank you everyone. To be honest, I don't know if there's much point getting S14 brakes as an upgrade so I will likely go for Z32 or GTST brakes if the cost difference isn't huge.

Does anyone have info on service parts for my existing single pot setup though? I'm going to cross reference the parts to see if any UK pads will fit.

The 4 pots are essentially all the same; there's a slight difference in that some 4 pots on the Z32 were alloy and therefore a bit lighter, but generally, they're all the same deal.

Not what I was looking for but probably still useful to you at this stage.

I'll go digging around. There's a list here somewhere with the setup / brake disc sizes for all Nissan models of the era that are cross-compatible.

Just found some good diagrams on Nengun regarding the stock Q's brakes which tells me that I need part no AY040-NS046 for new pads. Whether this is correct or not is anyone's guess, but it's a good place to start!

41000k in this diagram is AY040-NS839. Here is a link to the page: https://www.nengun.com/oem/parts/Mzg...Zyb250IEJyYWtl

Ball joints for S14's are K9820 from Moog. RockAuto is a good source.

Is the actual question that you need brake pads for your Q, otherwise you'll do a 5 stud conversion?

If so, there are two part numbers shown to service it: AY040-NS046 and AY040-NS836. Couldn't tell you the difference though.

Yeah just trying to track down all vital service parts that may not have been available for UK cars, just for my own peace of mind so that when it comes to it it's all sorted.

If you're not looking to preserve originality, do a 5 stud swap as soon as you can. Better selection of wheels and brakes available, bet you'd have change out of £250 for parts.

I can't imagine how terrible those brakes must be.

Nissan direct are still a good source of parts, otherwise I use Amayama. All the parts catalogues are online there and when you get to the category you want, you can filter by QS.

I appreciate the 5 lug swap is the sane thing to do, but I've already got some 4 lug Buddyclub P1s I'm putting on the car and I'm just going to enjoy it how it is before it's put away for the winter. It's definitely high up on my list of things to do.

    Thanks for the resource!

you can just redrill the better brake discs to 4 stud if you want the 4 pot calipers and vented discs.

the 4 stud rear brakes are pretty rubbish too.
