Hope you didn't mind the prompt Doc.

I think the F40 is purposeful, but comes no where near to the 288GTO in looks.

If we're talking F40, how about F1 as most iconic road car? I say road car, because for me nothing compares to the Porsche 917.

A man after my own heart. The 288 GTO is probably the most beautiful car ever made.

    Porsche 917 / 30 oh my.

McLaren F1? Maybe but then they spoiled it with variants.

In terms of F1. The Williams FW14B or FW15C . Fully loaded with that Renault V10

Maybe Mercedes. As far as I know they introduce a great number of technologies copied by other vendors.

You might say the Ford Capri was an ionic tuners car, at least on par with Ford Escort but a section of the Capri owners club was destroyed by one member buying a stop-gap car while he looked for a "good" 2.8i. It "will do" he thought, ok it's Japanese, 3 doors like a Capri, so it's got a diddy little 1.8L 16 valve turbo engine. Oh my its got pop-up headlamps and it's a low lower than a Capri! Nothing they had could touch it down the "twisty test track" near the pub they met at, their eyes were opened and the gloves were off.

So someone else buys a Supra MKIII turbo. then there was a TVR, followed by the inevitable 911. That 200SX RS13 spelt the end of the North Birmingham Capri owners club as very soon none of them owned a Capri.

None of the cars needed tuning, they were all that much better straight off the showroom floor than any tuned Ford Capri.
