    Idea for In Car Audio

Had an idea for my in-car JL Audio sound system.

Build a ceiling into the Garage and flush fit the speakers. Components and a subwoofer, using the amps (4 channel and mono lock JL Audio)

Question. They provide maximum power at 14.4 V. Can you get a power supply that plugs in to the mains to cope with this?

the main problem with car amplifier gear is it's pretty high current draw given the lower voltage. it's difficult to find anything that suits power supply wise, without having a battery in the middle it. computer PSUs spring to mind, though they're 12v. the other option is a high current bench power supply.

    that's 13.8v & 40A - so you'd have to spec it appropriately

they're the other options - you could even go for one of the variable voltage/variable current bench top units, not sure how they'd handle it.

if you don't mind a janky setup, I'd run a car battery charger and run the amps off a car battery.

The speakers are just fine to use - I've got a boombox with two car pioneer speakers and a little 4" sub in, run off an 18v home made lithium battery pack - using the cheapy TPA3116 amplifier boards off ebay.
    white '94 s13 200sx scrapped - mapped to 1.45bar. OS giken box, garrett GT2876R, 950cc injectors, ORC twin plate, nistune. 349bhp/325lbft @ 1.3bar CA18DET
white '96 s13 180sx - type g with more kouki bits - RB25DET, GTR steel twin turbo conversion, RB26 crank & rods. 2.6L VVT twin turbo, SR20 OSG box, OSG STR twin plate clutch, Z32 ECU w/ nistune.

current status: 180 a bit broken but to be repaired.

That’s not a bad idea. Car battery and a charger. I was just wondering what the old car audio shops did

I could just sell you a cheap Denon A10SE to power the speakers and save all the hassle?
