Advice on selling a 20yr old S14 manual

    Hi Everyone

Newbie here, looking for some advice.

I'm a proud owner of a year 2000 S14 manual, had it for 20yrs from new. After new car warranty expired, I had it modified with exhaust, induction, turbo to 15PSI, 18" alloys and FMIC conversion (cheap BHP c270bhp) and have had loads of fun in it since (238,000 miles worth of smiles) - just commuting BTW, no drifting or track days. Unfortunately, time stands still for no car and the latest MoT fail (+ pressure from the wife) has led me to regretfully, look at moving it on.

I'd like it to go to a good home, as I don't have the time or capability to repair it. The engine, chassis & gearbox are OK, but much welding is needed on the sills and arches (probably about £2K worth in a garage), making the car less and less economical to repair. I've been advised to put it onto PistonHeads as a "spares or repair non-runner" due to MoT fail.

TBH, I'm not very experienced at buying/selling 2nd hand cars, as I haven't had to for the last 20yrs! So, before I put it onto PistonHeads, or contact one of the many buyers on ebay I though I'd ask on the owners club as I'd much rather it went to a genuine enthusiast.

Apologies to moderators in advance, but the welcome lounge was the only place where I got a "+Post New Thread" icon.

Welcome aboard. We have a For Sale section and pictures will help it sell.

I live in Northampton, if you need anything or want help valuing I can always add my 2p.

If you sell with a lots of required rust repairs you’ll lose out. Pay to get it professionally done, then you’ll be in a better selling position, just my opinion though.

Advice on selling a 20yr old S14 manual

    Hi Piman2K

Thanks for replying. I'd certainly value your opinion if you've got the time.

I tried the "For Sale" section but didn't get the option to post a thread. The "Welcome" section was the only option. I'll try again and see if it's enabled now, maybe you have to do a "Welcome" post first. At the moment, I don't have a clear idea of what to put it on for though, I've had a wide range of figures suggested to me from friends in the motor trade. The more knowledgeable ones suggested the owners club, so here I am.

So I'd be grateful for any help.

Sure chap, is it off the road at the moment? I have family in Buckingham so we are over there reasonably often.

    Hi Piman2K

The car is off-road at the moment, and resting on my driveway. What's the best way to arrange date/timings etc?

    Hi and welcome.

With moon miles and £2k of rust repairs I'd say £2 - 2.5k on a good day

That depends on the extent of the rust. If the shell is scrap because you end up chasing the rust and the car is fairly standard, given the mileage, I think 2k might be optimistic.

    Hard to tell without pictures.

I had 2 s14a automatics at the same time both bone stock original, same year, one had about 90k on the clock and the other 220k and the higher mileage one had better compression/sounded healthier. both shells were rotten.
