I like how everyone keeps saying that this is linux's year and it will wipe out windows and all that crap.
    Nope not a flipping chance.

The problem with linix is that, take away the desktop manager and your left in CLI land on nightmare. Have had to have countless times typing in massive command line lumps of text to tell it to do stuff you should just point and click on.
Then there is the versions problem.... ok this exists in windows world as well but no where near as bad as you can have in Linux land.

One day my GUI for pihole stopped working right, good god what a bloody nightmare finding that some module in some crappy piece of code used by something completely different was not the correct version or something the other.. Happens to me all the time when i am playing around with Linux boxes. "Warning this code will need kernel version bla dee bloody bla. and this xxxx version of xxxx and bla bla"
Linux will never ever take windows down, not when even seasoned IT professionals struggle to make it work sometimes. Yes i have to drop to the cli for some stuff with windows but generally its not massive screeds of command line entry.

Now this little rant, i hope it doesnt put the OP off because the pi and other SBCs are great - just remember they are "real" computers without the sugary coating of windows or osx on top.

Remember Android is based on Linux. iOS is based on proper UNIX

Yep android is based in linux as are many many things - like osx for instance*.
Yep apple lovers your expensive crap is based on free, sort of, software - BSD i think. Which is a flavour of linux like Ubuntu and all the others.

Ok ok ok being a bit casual with things here but you get the point.

I have been looking for ages at the xtrons VW look ones for my touareg...

I'm torn between a android oem look unit, but then it's forever in that car, or a double din fascia and pioneer tough screen with android auto.

Then if for any reasons the car goes, then the unit can be transplanted at little cost to the next car...

Trying get my head round the steering wheel control integration

Pioneer CarPlay Android Auto double DIN can have adapters for steering wheel controls. Funny the last after market stereo was Pioneer and I’ve always been an Alpine JL Audio guy

I've always used alpine, but the cost is astronomical for a equivalent to the pioneer offerings

My younger brother always wanted Alpine but bought JVC years ago because it had Orange lights. You could change the colour in Alpine

Not set it up yet but seen it working.

I have the standard NAV Screen with Musicbox (car rips cds to its own hard disk) plays DVDs and linked to standard. Bose stereo

The navtool just plugs into the USB input then allows you to use the touch screen with Car Play

Also has 4 camera inputs for front / rear and 2 sides
