So you’ve already got the screen? And that is to hook it all up?

Sounds like a job for a pi. Well to be fair a pi can do just about anything....with effort.

Buy one and then figure it out. Seriously it makes you go back to when you were a child and Dad bought you your first home computer.

    It’s £35 for a PC! What’s not to love?

And if you want tips on how to set it up. Start a group chat. PI enthusiasts help each other. I’m sure Sideways has a few tips

Sounds interesting. I’ve just found this which seems to be a handy guide https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/articl...r-raspberry-pi

    Yes indeed haha.

Will an android tablet be able to provide the same computing power as a pi?

There are other types of pi that are no pi's - er..
    Search for single board computers.
I have several odroids and they are similar to pi's - however some are several times faster and much faster than a cheep tablet would be.

Only thing with these single board computers is they are very techy, now yes Raspbian is supposed to make it easy but.. go past the "easy" bits they do for you and it gets very Linux very fast.

Its a bloody mess thats whats wrong with it.
I like how everyone keeps saying that this is linux's year and it will wipe out windows and all that crap.
    Nope not a flipping chance.

The problem with linix is that, take away the desktop manager and your left in CLI land on nightmare. Have had to have countless times typing in massive command line lumps of text to tell it to do stuff you should just point and click on.
Then there is the versions problem.... ok this exists in windows world as well but no where near as bad as you can have in Linux land.

One day my GUI for pihole stopped working right, good god what a bloody nightmare finding that some module in some crappy piece of code used by something completely different was not the correct version or something the other.. Happens to me all the time when i am playing around with Linux boxes. "Warning this code will need kernel version bla dee bloody bla. and this xxxx version of xxxx and bla bla"
Linux will never ever take windows down, not when even seasoned IT professionals struggle to make it work sometimes. Yes i have to drop to the cli for some stuff with windows but generally its not massive screeds of command line entry.

Now this little rant, i hope it doesnt put the OP off because the pi and other SBCs are great - just remember they are "real" computers without the sugary coating of windows or osx on top.

Why not just fit one of the android head units like pumpkin/xtrons etc and do away with any ball ache fitment issues for something that will just work?
