    SR20 engine identification

I’ve bought a replacement engine for my s14 and the garage need to know it’s an sr20det before they fit it. Previous owner said it’s from an s15 spec s and I need it for my s14a. The codes on the engine are SR20 289703W and theres also 65F and 5L printed on it.

Is this a turbo SR20 and will it fit my s14a

    Thanks

The spec s comes with a SR20DE and is quickly identifiable by the silver rocker cover. I'm not sure if the block, pistons and bottom end is the same as the SR20DET though.

Has it got a distributor or coil packs? Is the rocker cover silver?

The rocker cover has been painted so no way of knowing if it was silver originally. The rocker cover does slope off at the back so does this make it a notch top? The previous owner said it came with an s15 spec s ready to do a conversion not that it was fitted and he’s told me a sr20det. I just want to check it can take a turbo before fitting it. Thanks

Does the rocker cover have the threaded holes for the coil pack cover?

Not sure on that I’ll take a look after work. If it’s got coil packs does that mean it’s the det?

Edit: it does actually have a coil pack cover with bolts but I can’t upload a picture to here. Does the spec s engine not have the threads?

The Spec S (DE motor) doesn't have coil packs or a cover.

Ahh thanks for the info. Is there anything on the engine that will tell me it’s a DET? Thanks

And also, are all sr20dets the same in terms of fitting different cars. E.g will a s13 or s15 sr20 fit an s14?

They'll all fit. Get some pics of the engine.

My old engine has a code then a T but the new one is 289703W. Does anyone know what the last letter corresponds to?

The garage thinks the T on my old engine means turbo and they’re not sure what the W means. So if anyone knows it’d be a big help thanks

You're over thinking it a bit.

It has a DET CAS and coil packs.
If it has the oil drain for the turbo in the block then you're golden.

You may want to get a new garage.
