    S14 Single Piece Prop Shaft

    Hi All,

I find myself with some spare car pennies this month. Interested in going for a single piece prop shaft to simplify the drive train and save some weight. S14, SR20, 5 speed, ABS.

Are there any reccomendations of where to go over here? I've found a few US companies but would like to take a break from shipping, dduties and VAT if possible!

    Cheers

    Ryan

They weren’t keen on single piece props back in the day when they made ours, but worth a go.

When you say they made yours, do you mean they did a batch or something for the SXOC? I'm keen to not have to measure anything as historically I mess it up.

Drifter had them make a batch of front halves for the Z32 conversion.

Weight, even in like for like Steel, let alone Aluminium or carbon. Scrapping the centre bearing especially if it's old and tired.

Unless you get the driveline angles spot on you'll have no end of issues.

The single piece prop that came with my Z32 conversion (despite being a quality piece and being properly balanced) caused horrible vibration making the car undrivable at speed. Hence going back to the 2 piece arrangement.

Wasn't something I was aware of back then, you need 1-3 degrees angle on the prop. Somethng I could probably have sorted by messing around with the gearbox mount.

are S14 centre bearings in common with the 4WD Qashqai like the S13 one? they're definitely still available - I presume if the S13 is in common with the Qashqai that the S14 one must be.
    white '94 s13 200sx scrapped - mapped to 1.45bar. OS giken box, garrett GT2876R, 950cc injectors, ORC twin plate, nistune. 349bhp/325lbft @ 1.3bar CA18DET
white '96 s13 180sx - type g with more kouki bits - RB25DET, GTR steel twin turbo conversion, RB26 crank & rods. 2.6L VVT twin turbo, SR20 OSG box, OSG STR twin plate clutch, Z32 ECU w/ nistune.

current status: 180 a bit broken but to be repaired.

    S14 Single Piece Prop Shaft

Bailey Morris wouldn’t make a one piece prop as it was too long which caused it to act a bit like a skipping rope causing lots of vibrations. It’d be better with a lighter material, I think the ally ones like Ken had were better, carbon better still. I’ve never really seen the benefit of going single tbh unless the centre bearing is ****ed.

I don’t know what condition my centre bearing is in, but I’m doing a pretty comprehensive refit so it was a chance to simplify. You can buy the bearing still but it’s a PITA to fit from what I’ve seen.

I changed mine on the PS last year with the Qashqai variant and it wasn't too bad at all to fit in all honesty, with the RB now going in I've opted for a single piece prop. so hopefully that works out without any vibrations previously spoke about
