Good effort that! Something I've been wanting to do but can't weld for toffee. Got 2 big Nissan branded oil drums to use too.

    She rips...

Some of the welding is dubious.... don't know if the drums got some weird steel or the gas has gone crap at the end of the bottle... but it'll do

Better tasting food comes out of bad looking grills anyway

Added some air vents, chimney and removable coal basket so she can smoke and grill

Just burning the paint off and testing the vents behind the garage, than it can see some patio action

Another big ass bike ride today - about 19 miles in total, circa 75% on road with the rest being bridleways and footpaths (that weren't really designed for bikes ).

I'd never heard of The Vange Wells before, but whilst I was researching some local history it popped up and I thought it looked interesting.

    http://www.basildon.com/history/vange/vwn5.html

Thought it was as good a place as any to aim for, so set out this morning on a fairly decent sized hangover (5 Brewdog beers and a bottle of wine ) to go at it.

There was but one problem - there's a bloody great hill in the way! An absolute belter, as it happens, 380 feet up from sea level whereas I live about 30ft up That's some incline. Had to decide how to tackle it:
    1) The long and less steep way
    2) The shorter and far steeper way

I chose 2 and ****ed if I know why I thought that was a good idea It was made even worse by the fact it's a good 7 miles or so before you even hit the incline, so I didn't exactly arrive the freshest. I am pleased to say I did manage it though.

Setting off through the villages, stopped to admire the rolling countryside and had a visit from a friendly little bunny rabbit - couldn't get phone out in time though.

Getting closer to start climbing. See the mast up there? Well that's where I was heading.

Not quite at the top yet, but not far off. Hill drops off steep over the edge there

This lane was absolutely killer - I'd love to know what the gradient is:

Remember that mast? Got there The hill is called Beacon Hill and it's not hard to see why.

Into the park itself, we've come down a bit off the top of Beacon Hill but it's still pretty high

Industry over on the Thames - this is the super-port

And then a steep descent through the trees of the woodland to get to where I wanted to see

Went a different way back, because I didn't want to climb Beacon Hill the other side again, despite the fact it would have been a piece of piss after that - proper easy street. Fair to say some of the footpaths I tackled were a bit sketchy on the bike but I just about navigated them all, and had some nice views, too.

Looking back on where I'd been

If only all the paths were like this I'd have been alright

And some really nice Essex scenery (just off the A13 )

It's one of the things I've really enjoyed about having some time off in lockdown - going exploring in the local area. Wife and I walked out of our house the other day and ended up finding a towpath trail that goes for about a mile just down the road from our house, and we never even knew it was there.

I went for a walk the other evening and managed to take this

Other than that, being partying around with diagnostics codes (have an OBD2 WiFi dongle and Diagnostics software on the iPhone) it really works

Another one taken today. I still need to figure out the Camera settings as going into Arperture Mode it constantly adjusts the ISO

Lockdown is certainly handy for discovering scenery and walks etc nearby. Lived here two years and only now finding rivers, paths and woods that I really should have found about two years ago!
