    S13 exhaust advice

So... I have had my CA powered S13 for many years now, during which time my taste for loud exhausts has been and gone. Looking for new exhausts, all I seem to find are huge straight through really loud ones (and I already have one of those).

Does anyone know a good exhaust that would pass track noise tests (without bungs etc) that is still manufactured and available, or is it a case of getting a custom one made up these days? It doesn't have to be silent, just not silly. Looking for turbo or cat-back as it's an S13

HKS Silent Hi Power. Passes track noise tests even with a decat.

I thought they were out of production, but then I'm sure I saw them for sale online the other day (possibly srb power?).

Looks like a few places sell them for about £650.
At that price, you are in custom exhaust prices though, which would mean you could get something that will pass sound testing and be tucked up nice and high.
I've been quoted around that figure by a motorsport place near me.

What power is it making ?

A mongoose is quiet until in WOT and then sounds nice and not too loud. Not sure on decibels.

They used to sell s/h for about £60. I've no idea what they sell for now.

When Mongoose stopped making them, they were made under licence by Blueflame but I don't think they still make them. Just motorcycle stuff.

Does it have to be new ?

I went the custom route. Dont regret it a second.
It's full stainless 2.5" turbo-back with 2 middle Vibrant silencers and 1 backbox (shotgun tips, so no bung possible) again from Vibrant. All connected together with V-bands etc. I'm quite happy with the noises it makes, no raspness of any sort...
It happens from time to time for people asking if it's the stock exhaust, until I give it some gas. On idle it's pretty quiet, I hear the injectors ticking more than the exhaust

I've got both a Mongoose and a Blue Flame. They are completely different exhausts. The Blue Flame has a 2 bolt flange joint between front and rear sections. The 'goose has a slip joint with a "U" clamp. When I bought the Blue Flame, Mongoose were still in production.

The 'goose is currently dead awaiting resurrection as it's cracked at the weld behind the cherry bomb (where the cat was).

Blue Flame made exhausts for TVR and were "performance" options on Jags. TVR going down the pan hit them hard.

Thanks, I once had an S13 with a Nur Spec and it was very loud. If I got a silenced front pipe, I'd still couple it with a different cat-back

I think I'll go the custom route. The car is pretty low and the exhaust is by far the lowest part of the car, so it'd help with that.

On car lowered 25mm, the Mongoose front box hit speed bumps which is why it cracked. The Blue Flame on same car doesn't.

So be preprepared to cut and re-weld the downpipe to tuck the 'goose up a bit higher.

Mine was lowered 35mm and never had that problem with monster speed bumps in Harlow.

Only exhaust I had that suffered ground clearance was the HKS Hiper Muffler - which was mild steel rubbish apart from a Stainless skin on the back box. Even the Blitz didn’t suffer from ground clearance
