Now ive had the HSS bypassed for a while so today decided to remove it from the strut.

yes put that metal box back on and plug it back in
the hot start is just the round bit!!!
I dont think the car will even run without that square box bit plugged in!!!
Cheers, I went on abit of a mad frenzy removing things today.. got abit happy
lol no probs just did a search that box is something to do with the coils so without it you wont get a spark

It wont be going anywhere at the moment as the AAC is unplugged and in bits in the other room.. along with the breathers and cam covers..
I might go put it all back together now
too cold!! I just got in from fitting subframe locking collars
Its the power transitor. It supplies power to the plugs. - EDIT

I always get that and the dropping resistor (which sits closer to the AFM) mixed up.
The dropping resistor supplies the injectors and the power resistor supplies the plugs. Is that right now, Nene ?

apologies for bumping a suuuuper old post, but this has been the most useful thread on the topic (wanted all info consolidated to one thread for future researchers) and i know you (Jonny Wilkinson) still active and it ownt let me DM you
how should the vacuum hose be routed when i unplug my HSS? should I leave it plugged into the solenloid (and only unplug the plug) or would it behoove me to T them together or elimiate a line?

IIRC the HSS Tees into the line between the FPR and a vac nipple on the back of the head.
So just run a short piece of vac hose between the FPR and the vac nipple.
Then plug the small hole in the inlet trunk between Air Flow Meter and Turbo.
Don't try to remove the metal pipe behind the head, it's welded to brackets that also has the heater coolant flow tube on it.
And there is absolutely no need to actually remove the solenoid unless you are wanting a really clean engine bay.
