    Builder friends

I live in a very old house. It was built in stages and the oldest part which is over 300 years old has developed cracks in the wall due to subsidence.

The house has tie bars in the up stairs but the crack has developed in the downstairs. If the wall falls apart infrared I may end up in the garden one night. What can I do? Will Insuramce cover it? Butress against the wall etc?

What do your insurance docs say about cracking/subsidence etc?

Sounds like you need a structural engineer to run an eye over things and make some initial recommendations on possible repairs/remedial works.

What do you mean by tie bars? Helifix or similar crack stitching products?

The Tie bars are one inch solid steel bars running through the house with 12 inch steel disks securing them to the walls. Probably due to subsidence as the house is built on a hill.

The crack is on the up part of a hill.

Insurance is coming out in the next 24 hours
