    Camshaft vs VTC

Hi all, I haven't been on here for quite a while now so decided to get back into the car and get It mapped, but before I do that, I need to change my cams from the stock ones.

So I ordered the 264 HKS 12mm lift cams, new rocker arms, BC springs & retainers & oil spray bars just to be safe.

I have just been reading on Nissansilvia.com that apparently if you use the 264 or anything with a 12mm lift it can kill the VTC?

    Is that right?

I was always under the impression that stiff valve springs killed vvt. not so much aggressive cams.

Same here and it make sense if the springs are stiff it’s loading up the vtc gear

That's fair enough, I kind of wanted to retain the VVT rather than pull it completely so will just see what happens really.

If it kills it then I will just run without one, iv only just bought this VTC pulley

My VCT started rattling like mad after a little while since fitting BC springs and 264 cams...

it gives you a bit more midrange, which is nice for cars with low power levels.
if I was going number chasing I would just remove it and fit some redtop cam gears.

I had 80ft ibs difference with VVT working and not working.
GT2871r and Poncams (256) stock VVT sprockets.

I lost about 50nm of peak torque and my gt3071r spools about 300rpm later without it. But some of that could be recovered by adjusting the cams. (I replaced the vct sprocket with adjustable cam gears)
