    Drunken Rant, just ignore me

    I WANT MY CAR BACK!

In January someone rear ended my S14...it's now late March and I still don't have my car. I'm stuck in a goddamn Volvo D4R courtesy car and have been for over a month...it tells me when to change gear...it beeps at me when it thinks I'm too close to a hedge and it thinks it's saving the world by turning itself off when I stop...I hate it!

My insurance company outsource the organisation of the repair to Enterprise..who also gave me the Volvo...but Enterprise outsource the repair to a company called IMS...who then outsource it to a local garage. The local garage have completed most of the work but can't find all the parts for the repair...parts that I sourced through a very helpful member of SXOC.

IMS who authorised the repair told the garage not to start the work until they had all the parts...but the garage started repairing despite being unable to source all the parts. So now the car is in a state of semi repair. The garage won't release the car to me because they want to be paid for the work they have done. IMS are washing their hands of it because they advised not to start the work until they knew they could the parts. My insurance company Zenith told me I need to speak to IMS...IMS told me I need to speak to Zenith...this went on for a few weeks.

I am being told that I will get the car back with some cash in leu to pay for the remaining repairs...but it will not be written off. Everytime I call Zenith they tell me that it is complicated and they can't just pay the garage for the work they have done...so my car remains at the garage...who won't release it without being paid. So it seems I am destined to drive this stupid Volvo indefinitely while my S14 rots at a garage that doesn't care one iota about it. Everytime I call Zenith they have done absolutely nothing about it since last time I spoke to them. In the meantime I'm getting 3 or 4 calls a day from accident claim companies who for some reason think I deserve £2000-£3000 for being crashed into despite me having no injuries....I hate the culture of personal injury claims and I would never pretend to be injured for what they are telling me is free money.

Sorry again for the rant but I'm at my wits end right now.

The ironic thing is that whilst they argue the toss the Volvo is costing £80 odd quid a day probs

What are the missing parts? Very annoying situation, hope it's sorted soon!

Someone hit my car whilst parked up and I got calls for almost 2 years about personal injury! Most just hang up when I say I wasn't in the car when it was hit.

ive seen people submit claims for personal injury when they weren't in the car and argue the toss and get a small 'go away' prize.

sounds like the hire car has made the repair not financially viable. also sounds like they have nailed the repairer on price and they have exceeded the time so aren't really interested in carrying on.

personally I would just sit it out and wait for them to contact me to say the car is done then go down and not accept it or make sure they haven't scratched it. id be wary that they have just bodged it.

I'd be pissed. I'd be visiting the car at the local garage every day like visiting a sick relative in hospital.

Threaten Zenith with the insurance ombudsman.

Call them every day for a week then refer it to the ombudsman if they still make no progress.

    Good luck.

This, someone is going to lose quite alot of money over this cockup, the OP wants to make sure they aren't the one out of pocket.

If that personal injury company can get you a couple of grand, as distasteful as it may seem - you might actually need that money to put the car back together?

I seen something like this when I worked in a bodyshop, guy had a Daewoo Nexia that had been crashed, the bodyshop started repairing it and found they couldn't get the parts, So it sat in the yard missing something major like a quarter panel for an eternity whilst the guy was cruising around in an equal sized hire car, which was probably an Escort or ironically an Astra. I think they ended up having to buy it off him.

    Update:

I’m getting my S14 back on Thursday this week apparently. It’s being recorded as a “non repair” which means it isn’t being written off but they can’t repair it cos they can’t find the rear bumper that I got for free, from an SXOC user...for free...that I told them I had when I delivered it to the garage.

They have to give me some money to fix it myself because they are too stupid/lazy to find the part. I thought it would be a few hundred but they confirmed today it will be £2000. I’m so happy! I have the bumper ready to go that I got free from an awesome SXOCIAN...SXOCITE....whatever we call ourselves...anyway, I have the paint, thinners and clear coat bought already from my workmates girlfriend who got me cost price on all of it, gonna do the prep myself and get a full external respray. I also just bought new sills and quarter pockets off eBay. I’m still getting calls everyday from injury claim vultures but I’m starting to have fun with them..wasting their time etc. Can’t wait to have my car back, thanks for your support!

Oh jesustitty****ingchrist! they told me to pick my car up on Thursday. So I gave the courtesy car back and went to collect it. It was no where near ready. For some reason they have removed a rear qtr window and not replaced it. They told me it would be replaced on Friday and they would call me to let me know I could pick it up. I called them in the morning and they told me the glass guy was working on my car and to leave a few hours. I call them at 3pm and it still wasn't done...then I called at 4pm and the glass guy had gone and not replaced the window. So now I have no car and I'm just waiting for the glass guy to go back and sort it. I actually think they are going to try to charge me for the window, but the work they have done does not necessitate the removal of the window so I think they either smashed it by accident or had some problems with local youths. I am generally a calm person but I totally lost my shit with them on the phone. I complained to Zenith who were no help at all. I'm actually looking forward to going down there and crucifying them when I finally pick it up. I think that they assume I know nothing about car repair and that they will be able to convince me that the window had to be replaced because they re-alined the chassis slightly to meet the boot lid correctly.

check the mouldings if they have cut the window out, it usually wrecks them.

Ok so I was told to come and collect my car last week. Now because the insurance company is classing it as a non repair; the garage is not doing anymore work on it...understandably as they are no longer getting paid. Now considering all they did was pull the boot out where it meets the boot lid so the boot could be opened and closed, it seems that they have stripped way more than they needed to. They have removed the window rubber from the passenger side front window, removed the aerial, removed lots of the internal (not sure what you call it) plastic mouldings that sit between the back window and rear quarter window. All of these I can re-fit myself of course. But...for some reason...now the key fob no longer activates the central locking, and the brakes are absolutely ruined. The brake pedal goes all the way to floor and the rear passenger side brake nearly sets on fire if use the brakes to slow down from speed, ie when leaving a motorway. I've had to rent a car for the week and leave it on my dad's path as it is dangerous to drive. It's as if the rear passenger side brake is the only one that is working. What the hell have they done??

I can't believe they let me drive it out of the garage like this as it is clearly not safe to drive. I've booked it in with the garage that I usually use so they can find out what they did to the brakes but a local mechanic checked the brake fluid and it is super low...he topped it up and initially the brakes felt normal again but that lasted about 10 seconds until the pedal lost all stiffness and went all the way to the floor again.

The boot lid still doesn't stay shut either. I can't believe that getting crashed into is costing me so much. Does anyone have any ideas what the hell they have done to my brakes?

your brakes are unrelated, its just as a result of being sat. you would have as much luck claiming against them for your tumble dryer packing up as a result of the accident.

sound like they just gave you a cash in lieu settlement.

have you got somewhere in mind to carry out the work?

There's a place near my work in Liverpool that I usually take it to. They're called Riverside Racing.

So what exactly has happened to the brakes do you think?

Sounds like youve had no luck even though it hasnt been your fault here, hope it gets sorted soon! As soon as your policy runs out id be changing insurance companies if i was you

Riverside is a decent garage an atleast you know youll be able to trust them with your car

As for your brakes maybe a brake line has corroded away? As said about it will be unrelated but unfortunate that its happened now along with the rest going on aswell!

Probably just corroded lines or a flexi, is it all still original stuff?

I set my S13 brakes on fire after it'd been sat in a barn for a year or so, bits of straw and grass got in there.
Put out the fire and continued on my way to the MOT centre
