Pickups - what to get (choices inside)!

just been told i can pick my choice from a relatively short list but it does include all the major players.

The only choices are as the link below. I Cannot go elsewhere, it has to be an auto as thats what everyone has so everyone can drive everyone elses trucks.

    http://www.vanarama.co.uk/search.htm...pricePerMonth=

Basically anything up to around the £350/mth range.

My experience is extremely limited. Reviews suggest the L200 is the pick of the bunch. The fiat is supposedly an L200 underneath??.

I quite like the equipment of the rangers compared to the rest but is that at the expense of quality?

    Help me please.

    Auto only? Gaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy......

Go have a play IMO. My ol' man went through the same process about 15 years ago when these were the new and cool thing. His boss loved the Navara and he picked the Ranger. I used to quite enjoy driving his Ranger, as you could clutch kick the rear out nicely, which is probably why the clutch failed at 40k

The L200 is indeed supposedly, according to the reviews, the daddy.

If it was me, I'd check out the usual Jap suspects of L200, Navarra and HiLux plus the VW Amarok 3.0 V6. The latter particularly if I was looking for a car-like interior.

The Ranger is made in Thailand so I'd check the build quality really carefully.

The Mercedes is a Navara in a frock with 50% increase in the price tag to boot, so ignore that one right away.

The Amarok is the one to get but they are fooking HUGE After that its a toss up between the Hilux and Ranger. Isuzu Dmax are also apparently good.

TBH all modern Nissan diesels are. I had an unfortunate 1100 miles in a brand spanking new £35k plus fully loaded X-Trail - I ****ing hated it so much I wanted to **** the CDW off just so I could drive it off a cliff. Hateful POS

Nooooo! No isuzu’s! We’ve got loads of them at work and they are one of the worst thing I’ve ever driven. Thy are cheap for a reason, clutches after 20,000 miles, warped brake discs, clutch pedal feel is dreadful and the gearbox ratios are way way off. 1.5k rpm at 70mph?

Although actually the brand brand new ones with the smaller engines seem to be having less problems and have better gear ratios but are still the same dreadful build quality

I'd go for the Ranger personally, second choice the Amarok.

We have a mix of hilux, rangers and now dmax at work (electricity board)

All the rangers are in varying states of disrepair and are constantly having issues - mine loves to throw a check drivetrain light.

They are also woefully underpowered until the turbo kicks in, in 2.2 guise.

They are very much like a unmapped Td5 disco for a dead spot when pulling off non blower revs.

The hilux have and are as ever superb with very very few issues. Though not as well equipped as the rangers, they don't loose bits of interior trim when off roading etc. And the 2.5 seems to have thrice the power of a ranger when not wringing it's neck.

The latest editions are the bi turbo dmax.

Had about a 50% rate of return so far for issues. But any problems seem to be from new, when they have arrived in full working order they have stayed that way and when working seem trouble free... Also have a shit ton more power than the ranger. Though they are very 90s basic inside.

For me it would be a amarock

I've just ordered an l200 as a company car, i had a 48 hour test drive on the ranger wildtrak and I thought it was great. I'd have gone for the ranger but it was a lot more expensive than a similar spec l200

Yeah, the ranger is coming out around 390/mth which is a little over budget but what they have me is from 2yrs ago so I could try my luck. Had a little drive out in a wildtrak 3.2 earlier. It was a decent drive and very comfy. The amaroks available to me are no where near the ranger in terms of spec/trim level for the price and the 16plate I drove earlier just wasn't comfy. The l200 barbarian is just over 300/mth but need to find one local enough to have a browse and drive

    I'd go Amarock myself
