    well
    if i was to convert my s15 spec s to a spec r would i have to strengthen the chasis or is it strong enough as it is ???
    or do ppl think the autech engine would be a better conversion less hassle lookin for a spec r engine !! opinions plz

    I think the chassi would be alright.
    The Spec-S chassis stiffness would be equal to a S14 or S14a.

    You might want to consider bigger brakes though as the Spec-S only got single pots in the front.

    I would personally go for a used SR20DET from a S14 or S14a.

    For the money it's gonna cost you I recon you'd be better off buying a Spec R in the first place.

    Hi Gunner

    If you want to bring the Spec-S exactly up to the same specification as a Spec-R specification then just buy one instead. I have had the same thought process and I currently have a Spec-S:
    http://sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=255409

    However, I think you have got to ask yourself why do want to modify the Spec-S and what end result do you want from modifying it (i.e. 300bhp, Stage-2 with traction control etc.) The slope of modifying is a slippery one so I would advise you to have a clear goal and a list of mods you want to meet your needs.

    For starters such modifications could include:

    • Uprate the front brakes to four pots and braided brake lines in readiness to stop you when you have more bhp;
    • Uprate the suspension, cambers, anti-roll;
    • Uprate or replace the engine to an SR20DET including clutch, looms, ECU and engine ancillaries;
    • Uprate the exhaust and induction

    If you can afford to buy and Insure a Spec R. Buy one. Its be cheaper in long run than doing conversion.

    Unless you can find a write-off Spec R and then transfer everything but the chance of finding one in the UK would be slim plus I think it would still cost you a pretty penny to buy . . .

    If I was going to be building a fully tuned S15, I would have considered the Spec S. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to get through ESVA.

    And all of those bits which makes the S15 Spec S and not Spec R will be exchanged for aftermarket bits better than Spec R stuff anyway.

    But with a Spec-R you can sell the stuff like brakes, diff and so on, The Spec S brakes and diff won't be worth much.

    So the final cost might be the same anyway

    You can turbo the NA setup, but it does have it's problems due to engine management etc.

    If you want to turbo your S15 Spec S i would sugest you go buy a crash damaged S14 for under a grand and that will give you EVERYTHING you need to do it. Brakes, box, engine, ecu, loom etc.

    Unless you want to bring the Spec S up to the EXACT spec of the spec R. Then just go buy a spec R

    Yeah , thats what I am in the middle of doing right now... S spec S15 auto converted into D1 Drift spec using S14a engine etc from a crashed car.

    Lots of work though, but it does force you to find out everything about it? And I definately under estimated the work, may have gone for a R spec if I had my time again? ...Nah wouldn't be as much fun!

    Might even build the n/a engine into a turbo big power spec one day as its very low milage...
