    Initiative Q

Still not sure if this is just a scam/shill type scheme, but the details required to register are pretty minimal, so maybe worth a punt?

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot. If you missed getting bitcoin seven years ago, you wouldn't want to miss this.

    It's basically everywhere right now.

Considering you only need an e-mail address to sign up it's not hard to create some fake accounts and give yourself a load of free coin.

Here is my link from a few days ago, I've seen tons of people on Facebook touting their own as well.

It does specifically state that if you are found to have verified a fake account you'll lose your bonus...

I bet everyone is going to be doing it though, they've got no real way to double check.

Just looked into this. 5 mins research with my IT Security head on suggests it is a basic pyramid selling scheme with nothing but smoke and mirrors behind it in the way of a payment network/currency.

Its not a crypto-currency, its a private currency and there is no info to tell you what you have to do to redeem the Qs you accumulate.

All it costs you is the 21st centuries most valuable currency...PII a.k.a. your personally identifiable information.

If you sign up, you are identifying yourself as someone susceptible to get-rich-quick schemes and by inviting "mates" you are placing yourself into a network of similar thinking individuals. Its a targeted list that scammers would kill for.

If you've signed up and spread it via Facebook, facebook and google will have already profiled you as susceptible to this kind of scheme. Whether they will use that for good or evil, is up for debate.

Oh, and Sideways14a is a silly prat

There is no strong case for bitcoin, let alone another non-crypto currency. Bitcoin only succeeded because it provided a mechanism for dealing in drugs on the darkweb. Maybe Q is going to piggyback off the other reason the internet is so successful...porn lol.

To succeed as a mainstream currency you need buy-in from and the trust of the merchants and mainstream consumers and, from that point of view, the existing infrastructure isn't really broken.

In summary, is a pyramid data-mining exercise with no credible currency or payment network behind it that won't ever come to anything.

    IMO, its one to avoid.

Feel free to throw these very words back at me in 10 years time when you're all multi-millionaires and I'm worrying about how to manage on my pension lol.

Name and email address will almost certainly have been compromised in one of the many data breaches already, not exactly giving much away...
