Coolant Temp Sender arrived and installed today

That'll be my last car fixing related post for some time I should expect
9 ****ing long hard months as it turned out
Anyway, back to car fixing. Jag was off-road for 5-6 months because of various reasons - got it back on the road and took it to Spa for the F1, and on the way back it ground its rear pads down to feck all on one side and then needed a new set of rear brakes Still, got those done by the MOT garage cheaply and it went straight through otherwise - all good..... or so I thought.
Been struggling with a coolant loss for a while. Originally I thought it was head gasket but now I'm really not sure that's the case. It's throwing the coolant out from somewhere, but not sure how or where.
Fitted a new expansion tank cos I've read they can easily split along the seams etc. Now a lot more pressure behind the cap - but still leaking ~200ml of coolant every day or so. Enough to throw the warning light on which is really bloody annoying. More to do.
And then the Golf started giving me beef too - misfire which was on and off to start with became a lot more serious.
Pulled the plugs and
Yeah that'll be why. New plugs in and all fine again. But it's burning some oil and really is a bit of a beater....
Definitely leaking from up front. The hoses, fan shroud and water pump are coated in it
Not sure what you mean on the second bit? The plugs in the Jag are an arse to get to - the inlet mani does have to come off for that one (unlike the Golf - which is what I was told I'd need to do....)
Ah, I see. Yeah, one bank is extremely difficult to access as the mani has to come off. Probably not worth the investigation.
The motor still runs lovely. Since my initial concerns it must have done a good couple of thousand miles and doesn't misbehave in terms of temperature, smoke or power loss. I guess we'll see.
Pin hole in rad or rad top/end tank seal?
That's where I'm headed, it's a very good shout. Have seen the rads failing on the end tanks so it stands to reason.
Reckon with a pressure build up blowing the tank side it would then throw a bit of coolant out of the cap as the pressure releases?
It's done about 4,000 miles losing coolant slowly now so if it were head gasket I'm sure I'd have cooked it by now.
Nah you can do good miles on a dodgy headgasket.
Pretty sure my 306 was pushing 20k on a leaking gasket before it finally went pop.
but if there's visible coolant loss you're after a leak, can you run it on a lift and get a good look from underneath?
Well it's still going....
It's spewing it out of the top of the cap - I'm pretty sure of it. Brand new expansion tank and cap.
Anyway, on other matters, was going to take the 911 out for a run today but bottled it because I needed to stop at a retail park to pick something up, busy car park and all that. Glad I did. Look what some **** did to my Golf
And just drove off
Update, Jag has gone to the scrappy in the sky. Sad times because I really did like that car but it wasn't an economically viable fix and I suddenly realised I didn't have to be such a skinflint when it came to the car that was taking the wife 50 miles every day for commuting purposes.
So what did we need? Something practical, economical, comfortable, reliable.
Ish
Ah yes, my Golf. Err, yeah. Bit of a story on that.
Well the battery went flat yeah cos I hadn't like used it or nuffin yeah and then like I went to open it yeah and the battery was flat yeah so I thought yeah like I'll just use the key yeah and then like err yeah the like key didn't like work in the door like yeah nor the boot yeah so err yeah, I'm err, yeah, locked out of ANOTHER car
take the engine undertray off and stick 12v onto the starter motor? or up the tow bar wiring etc..
I did similar with a 306. Deadlocked the doors then went on holiday, battery went flat.
Managed to get hold of the bonnet release cable with some long mole-grips.
Sig needs updating Arry
So it's fair to say that Cyril has thrown his first toy out of the pram.
Folded the mirrors in because it was bin day and the bins were out on the street. This highlighted that the passenger side window didn't fold but this didn't matter so much as the car was parked offside to the kerb.
It did matter the next day, however, when the mirror failed to fold back
Common fault by the looks of it, so I ordered two new Shut Off Devices (sods ) for the mirrors from Tegiwa on an urgent basis, paying an extra £10 or so for delivery so that they'd be here next day by 9am. Next day came, no bits. Day after came, got a text at 9:06 saying they'll be with me between 12-1. 3:45pm they arrived
Thought about complaining but then they sent me a pack of Haribo Oh and this - starting to get all JDM again innit bruv.
