what fresh hilarity is this? s12 at 8k asking price!!
Surely this has to be some kind of sick windup?

2k, okay I can *almost* stomach that for a minter. But 8k, and in need of a respray by the way it's worded.
Saying that, this is PRECISELY what started to drive 200sx and ae86 prices up before it.

It’s called drift tax.
The market is pretty f***ed up nowadays.

Pfft, bloody daft. And if I see *barn find* on another ebay advert, it's like the latest trend on any car pre-1995.

barn find = laid up for years.
The S12 as a shape and design has aged really well IMO and to some it looks more "classic" than an S13.
Its lagged behind the 200-badged cars which have started appreciating in value after being cheap-as-chips for 10-15 years.
If you look at it dispassionately, 4K would be a relatively small price to pay for a fun, rear-wheel drive car that would stand out at a classic car show or meet.
I think 8K is a dealer-chancing-his-arm price but I also think your 2K is undervaluing what looks like a nice, savable example.
If I was in the market for a practical classic, I'd seriously consider it if it was up for 4-5K.

As above, dealer trying his luck. Despite S12's being a lot rarer than 13's they don't command the same price. Mostly because people people see other s bodies all over the internet nowadays. S13's have so much exposure, type S12 in on youtube and there is barely any videos on them.
What annoys me is S12's look very similar to AE86's and yet people are willing to pay 10 times the price for one of them. I don't get it, the 12 looks the same but has a 1.8 turbo engine. Why buy an 86?

The s12 is capable enough of drifting well, and with a ca18det up front it's a massive improvement performance wize over the 86. But the 86 is asthetically a more pleasing and well proportioned car than the s12 mk1 (the mk2 is just horrendous).

I think both Mk1 and Mk2 are good looking cars. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.
I think the look has aged really well and I like the look much better than when they first came out. Same can be said of the S13.

I have no idea why loads of old shit goes for stupid money, folk must be zipped up the back.
Just my view, but imho i would rather spend 50 Thou plus on drugs and hookers than an escort coswuf...

The difference is you could probably sink 5K in an S12, spend 2K over a couple of years keeping it nice/going and sell it again for 7K.
Your hookers and blow wouldn't last much more than a week, your brain would be addled and your dick would drop off.
I'd go with the S12 personally
