Head gasket or not??

Just been in contact with Horsham to up the power on my car I’m after 380-400hp I’ve got some bits to collect up over winter like cams etc but one thing Horsham said was not to replace the head gasket.
I thought as soon as you go over the 350bhp and run say 1.4bar then it’s time to up rate the head gasket and studs?? Is anyone here running 400hp on the standard gasket??

plenty of people have ran that power on completely stock unopened engines, its just how long it will last for that is the gamble.

Mine lasted 6months/1k miles on the 100k original one then started pressurising the coolant on boost
Swapped in a conceptua tuning gasket and their bolts that lasted 5 months/1-2k then pressurised the coolant again
This time I got the head skimmed and went with a Cosworth mls gasket and Cosworth studs and it’s been fine since March and I’ve probably done 2k ish but probably more

I can see the logic in it. I’m 380/400 at 1.4 and it’s been on stock gasket for just under 20,000 miles.

Some times disturbing it all can lead to more problems.

When I fitted cams to push the 390 mark I had the head skimmed, fitted arp stud kit and cosworth mls gasket. Piece of mind.

Sounds like pot luck really and good to know it can/may handle it just thought while the cams are being replaced you may as well do the head gasket/studs and a bit of head work

if i was only skimming the head and swapping the headgasket for metal then I would just reuse the original head bolts and not fit studs. as studs change the clamping forces.

If you use a metal head gasket you really should get the block skimmed as well.
