    Rear end clunking S13

    Hi peeps,

I’ve got an audible clunking coming from the rear end of my S13. I’ve just done my subframe bushes (poly) and the diff is solid mounted as all s13 diffs are as far as I’m aware?

I’ve never noticed the noise with my oem bushes and it seems to have started after I polybushed the subframe.

Have double checked subframe nuts and they are all tight. Diff (welded) doesn’t seem to have any play in it on both halfshafts or input shaft.

Could somebody give me some pointers please? I’m lost as to what the problem is..

Poly bushes will always show more noise than stock rubber ones

Yeah I know, but its a clunk as if somethings moving and hitting something? I’m not sure if it’s just paranoia but it sounds a bit odd. Didn’t expect a noise like that

My exhaust hits sometimes, I thought that my subframe was loose when I first heard it. Maybe something to check as it would have been off to replace the subframe

It fits spot on. Made sure to check that when I put it back

Two cable ties on the back box stopped my twin exit pipe clunking on the tie down loop.

Eliminate variables. Does it happen constantly, accel only, decel only? etc.

Happens when doing anything. Believe its just the weldy thats causing the noise.

Will just ignore it from now on it’s not too bad.

I had to modify 2 washers supplied with the poly bushes because they were to close to the subframe. The top one if I remember correctly.
