    Problem with my CA18DET

Hi! I bought my S13 10 months ago, I've a problem and I cant find the solution.

Between 1k and 4k rpm (roughly) the engine runs bad, with some misfire and bangs, if you put the fuel pressure at 3bar the engine runs without misfire and bangs.

    Stock internals.
    New VAG coilpack.
    New Sparkplug.
    New Nismo FPR (genuine).
    Walbro from January.
    New fuel lines.
No boost leaks or vacuum leaks.
    New GT2560R.
Compression test OK, all cyl with the same compression.
Stock air filter (but with apexi had the same problem), exhaust, ecu and intercooler.

    Help me!

Could be injectors with low pressure and when you turn up the FPR they spray more fuel?

I had something like that happen to me last week. 2 cracked injectors were leaking fuel, which reduced the pressure and leaned the mixture in vacuum. On boost the pressure gets high enough to overcome the leak and the mixture is corrected. But in my case it wasn't enough to cause misfire, I just had a 16-17 AFR, but it was running "smoothly"

What chip are you running ?

The CA as standard should run a T25 not a GT28R.

You need an HD Stage 2 or similar to run a GT28R.

You can't run much more than 6 or 7psi on the GT28R on a stock chip, even then you shouldn't really do it.

What spark plugs are you running and what are they gapped to?

It has the spark plugs that appear into the workshop manual with the specificated grapped.

The turbo is running with the stock psi.

The IC only affects engine temps and reduces the chance of detonation and the pressure loss between turbo and plenum.

You would be far, far better running an H-D Stage 2 chip with a WMIC than leaving it on the OEM chip.

Spark plugs...I would suggest NGK BCPR7ES gapped to 0.8-0.9mm unless you are still running a CAT in which case, use the NGK iridiums (BKR7EIX ??? or something).

Also, you need to set the FPR up according to the manual. I can't remember the details but its something like, you set it up to x bar at idle with the vacuum disconnected then check it after it is connected.
I remember that you end up with the wrong fuel pressure if you don't follow the procedure.

Yeah, I followed the procedure to set the fuel pressure to 2bar with vacuum line or 2.5bar without vacuum line, but It starts to run roughtly (misfire and bangs).

I'd switch back to the OEM FPR to eradicate that from the equation.

Well, I get other injectors until my injectors are checked and oem fuel pressure regulator.

I'm going to fit the stage II chip, can I test my car with stock turbo pressure?
