I know what you are saying about a better gun does not a better shot make but if you know how to shoot, a gun that suits you will improve your numbers and your enjoyment. What suits won't be solely based on price though and I guess that is your point.

There is a lot of money spent on those days, no denying that. I also beat for the local estate, good friends with the head keeper so get invited to all sorts of things.

@DLowe get yourself on pigeonwatch forum once your ticket comes through. Plenty of shotguns for sale on there.

pretty much set on one of these for my first, I know it will fit well and I'm not too bad with it for a newbie.

should last me forever if I buy new and look after it + it looks like a work of art

but it would by no means be the only one, and as I'm budgeting for a 2K splurge on new toys - leaves plenty for second hand S/S with some towards a new O/U if I do get proper serious with a collection

You're basically going to buy outright a brand new Landrover discovery as your first car.
I guess some people can do that and not feel they've made a mistake but if you passed your test then got to drive a Ferrari, an Audi, a Jag, a bimmer,a Jap import and a land rover what are the chances you'd buy a disco for your first car ?

I will never buy a land rover again....

But unlike the land rover, these get good reviews regarding reliability.

Having trolled the forsale pages this malomo guns place seems to have a good selection, so I will be trying others and if they don't fit as well as the older model I won't commit to buying one

I recently got my section 1 cert with a slot for shotgun, wasn't able to order an SX3 but got the SX4 instead. Extended mag tube was promptly ordered turning the 4+1 into a 10+1

The interview will likely be quite relaxed. I think I was asked the difference between a mechanical trigger vs an inertia trigger. It's also good to know your fall out distances for the different weight and size shot; the "300yard rule".

Incorrect with regards to Section 2, but very applicable for Section 1 ammo.
Shotgun ammo doesn't have to be secured. I've got about 3500 rounds stacked up in against the back wall of the dining room.
It does depending on what it is. Magnum ammo has to be secured

I used to Clay shoot when I was with Clare. Her Father a retired copper used to run it. Didn’t own my own shotgun used his. Normally an over under, but also a Remington Auto-loader.

Your shoulder certainly feels magnums, they aren’t required for clay shooting.

I would like to get back into it, but I wouldn’t do it around here

And also depends on how much ammo you have. Over a certain weight, you require an explosives license to keep it. Got that through rocketeering.

    Just got my SGC

    Bought this

Personally I wouldnt bother spending 2k on your first gun, loads around 2nd hand for £500-1000 that would fit the bill. Mine was only £350 and it feels good. I do want a Miroku and a Silver Pigeon or 682 Gold E next though.

Oh the missus has a Hatsan Escort Semi Auto

I'm not very good at identifying guns but that looks like a Spanish gun to me. Is it a Lanber ??? They made guns that sort of aped the Berettas in the 80s but more built down to a price.

EDIT: I'm talking about the pic Mark posted.

I got a friend of mine in to clays from airsoft. He got a £300 escort auto and out shot everyone repeatedly. As long as it fits!

I think my first gun (when I was about 12) was a lanber which had had the stock butchered. My old man cut it back straight and true, then put a spacer in made from an old piece of parquet flooring. Lol. Shot that for years until I got my own ticket.

I knew a guy had a golden clays. I'm guessing its similar...single barrel auto loader.

Please tell me its not a camo gun though...please.

No, it's the grade 3 walnut with scroll work and gilded game birds engraved on the side...

    Similar to;

They mainly deal in beretta but had a good selection of brands, the browning is by far my best fit, that or a miroku.

After comparing side by side the hattsan, Winchester beretta and browning semi's

The browning and beretta really do stand out in the crowd, beautiful designs and craftsmanship.

    Congrats on the ticket approval.
Just FYI, there is a second hand Maxus on Pigeon Watch at the moment, although it is back synthetic, £700.

Something you will absolutely love about the Maxus mechanism is the speed loading.
