    Odd Idle

    Hi All,

I have done a search and cannot find anything about this problem, probably very vague search terms clouded with other issues, but figure I'll just ask.

I have an issue with my idle on my CA18, when coming to a stop the car will sit at 1200-1500 to start with, then over around 10 seconds will come back down and sit at 850-900. Has anyone had this issue before and know how to resolve it?

I have tried another idle control valve, and checked for vacuum leaks.

    Thanks in advance

Might sound strange, but has it been converted to manual from auto?

Mine sometimes does the same thing around 1100-1300. Does it run rich?

More often than not it is in that range, I'm not too sure, haven't got any way of telling, it does smell a tad rich, but its a pre-cat model so I just assume thats normal.

Why do you ask that? I have a... I mean a friend has one converted to manual that has just started to have weird high idling but I haven't started investigating yet... It is too cold without a garage.

Timing, if it's not been messed with it's probably ok.
    Vac leak - checked.
Air reg (for cold high idle) under throttle, not likely stuck open as idle does eventually drop and once on, it's on along with fuel pump.
    Throttle - dirty?
    Fuel pressure.
ACC valve. You say you replaced the idle valve, was that the whole block with idle screw, AAC and FICD? There are 2 types of AAC, one pushes a plunger in the idle assy body the other has a tube with a port in it. The former requires the whole idle air assy to be cleaned.
FICD not common issue but if it sticks open when air con not on then it gives higher idle.
Check idle switch using mode IV ECU test.
    Mode III ECU check.
See if disconnecting ECU temp sensor has any effect.
