A quick update. No pictures I'm afraid but might try to get some later today.

    Since the last update I've

    - removed the mudflaps and started cleaning them up (on the hunt for a replacement rear passenger one)
    - started cleaning the engine bay (which is going to be a major PITA)
    - removed the door cards, door shut guards, ECU/Fuse covers and lower driver's side dashboard ready for cleaning and refitting.
    - bought a clay bar kit ready for a crack at the paintwork.
    - cleaned up the front and rear numberplate bricks with bumper trim restorer so they're back to black instead of white and grey
    - hoovered out the inside and cleaned all the glass and removed all detritus stuck to the windows (piranha stickers, old tax disc sellotape etc).

She now has a proper alarm fitted instead of the 1980s Piranha with a knackered 12v battery in the fob (yes, you did read that right).
Matt (Maff_1991) had a chap coming over from Horsham to fit an alarm to his car so we clubbed together to get a discount and said security chappie duly came along, removed all evidence of the Piranha and fitted an nice shiny TOAD Ai606. A very reasonable £300 for removal of the old alarm and an Ai606 fitted with a remote locking motor in the drivers door.

I had one fitted to Precious for over 15 years and never a single problem so went for the same again ( They are UK made too )

We used Southern Car Security based in Horsham and he did a really decent, professional job working all afternoon and early evening in bitter cold weather on my car. I felt really sorry for him.

Only two things remain now to get the thing sorted for road use and that is a set of tyres and a new cambelt as I can't find any evidence that its ever been done

For the tyres I'm going to go to Halfords as they are doing a set of ContiPremiumContact5's all-in for less than £300. Anyone want to tell me to do otherwise ? Always happy to listen. They need to be 195/60R15s remember which limits options a bit

For the cambelt, I'll go with a Gates full tensioner and belt kit but I need someone local that can fit it as I simply don't have time. Again suggestions welcome ! I'm happy to pay spannerman rates whoever fits it. The important thing is that they've done it before and know what they are doing with a CA.

I've also got some other parts lined up but not yet bought in the form of a better low mileage set of shocks, a set of rear arm bushes and an intercooler from other club members. Just waiting on me getting the car into the garage and starting to pull bits off it to see where the problems lie.

Finally, I'm on the look out for either a rear passenger mudflap with NISSAN written on it or a matching set.

Great story behind this, and great respect for the plans. All the best with the project and the little things that are going to start turning up!

The engine hasn't been cleaned since the car was new I don't think. Two of the plugs had obviously been sitting in puddles for a while. New plugs and air filter and she's back to running sweetly on 4

Started claying the car. This is off 1/8 of the roof !!!

I've now prepped, cleaned, clayed, cleaned again, polished and EPG'd the bonnet, roof and bootlid.

It now feels clean to the touch but it has rather confirmed what I feared...that it really needs a respray. If ever you wanted evidence that putting an outdoor cover on a car is a bad idea, this car is it.

On the upside, she's in the garage now so I can get the wheels off, clean them, get new rubber on and check out the suspension.

I've also got the internal panels to clean before I refit them (they were removed so I could get the alarm fitted).

I'll try to get a picture or two later.

So this weekend I managed to refit the driver's side interior panels after cleaning them and everything around them. I removed one wheel and started cleaning it but then got distracted and decided to rewire my garage instead lol.

I now have 5 double sockets and a lot fewer extension lead trailing round the garage !

    Pics later.

A ridiculous number of hours effort saw the bonnet, roof and tailgate polished

What you can see in the roof is the reflection of the garage ceiling with is very roughly plasterboarded.
