Does anyone actually buy these sorts of handsets outright though or are the vast majority on contracts?

People don't seem to balk at £50 or more a month for a phone any more. Total madness.

Most of the features have been available in other phones for a while now.
Big screen with lack of borders - GS8 ect.
Facial / iris recognition - various
    Wireless charging - loads
    Water resistance - loads

I've never gone for the brand new iPhone whenever I'm due an upgrade cos I'm not a big fan of paying for something I don't need. I'm always excited to get a new shiny phone for the first couple of days, then soon realise it works exactly the same way as the old one with the same OS.

    Its hit a flat spot.
No real new high value features or innovations.

I stopped upgrading until i broke the phone as most phones are very capable, have good cameras and do enough stuff i never use.

Bigger screens, slightly better cameras and some stupid novelty will not make it worth 700 to ...... now to upgrade.

I fried my last phone with a welder btw. Phone beside welder = fried radio. Who knew....

This is Apples Titan, they have created a new 1000 quid tier for a phone and folk will pay for it.

All these topics on the internet saying it's nothing special, the features are already available and the pricing is stupid.

Meanwhile, millions upon millions of people will pre-order and buy it at exactly that price for exactly that money.

Robbery? Not so much. Genius. Definitely.

Genius would be doing something new to reverse their reducing market share, but since they are no longer leaders in the field it's not really genius any more. Not sure what anyone expected though given who they have at the helm these days.

To be fair, they've done little but re-package existing innovations and charge people 50% premium over the competition.

Must save a ****ing fortune not having to do R&D anymore.

My 4s is getting a bit slow & clunky, (quelle surprise) so Probs. will update it with a 7 Plus, but bought outright, as they can be bought for 'phone money', not Flim-Flam inflated mega dosh that the X & 8's will be for a while.

My next Phone will also likely be a 7s. Don't get on with android and don't feel the need to customise things so apple works for me. I'm currently on a sim only deal with my iPhone 6 and will be as long as it's working as it should

The processor is an outstanding piece of work, just the rest of the design seems to be copied from everyone else.

And it's not even a good copy - S8 looks much nicer. How have Apple managed to go all screen yet still have a noticeable border round the edge?

I had loads of iPhones, wouldn't give them the time of day now.

The iphone is more of a status symbol now so its very clever of them to bring out a top tear phone and charge the magical £1000 for it as people will get it just to show off. Think the likes of instagram model wanna be's , Brochacho's at the gym and anyone else that feeds off that kind of attention. Its pretty much the same phone they have been plugging for years with a few more little tweaks to bring it in line with what other companies have been doing for so long. What they do succeed in is making other companies ideas work as its what they do. With regards to the design there the porsche of the phone world these days.
