    Best Gearbox?

    Hi all

I'm in the process of building a high powered SR20 for my s14 track car, and I need a stronger gearbox! I know there's a few options available, but would like to know what people's thoughts are on them and what you'd go for?

Thank you in advance for your input!

350z box is generally rated as the best these days for high power and / or abuse on track. Z32 / rb25 as a second option.

I've just fitted a Z32 and very pleased with it so far. Nice simple install.

I've heard the Z33 box hangs quite low but it was on zilvia where most cars are ran very low.

I've installed a Z33 (350Z) box. Haven't run the car yet, but you get decent ratios, 6 gears, and a very strong box. Mine only hangs 10 - 15mm lower than the chassis rails, but I've modified the trans tunnel a fair bit to allow the box to sit higher.

So is your engine tilted forwards too if you've raised the box up?

It doesn't appear to be tilted forwards. How low do most Z33's hang?

I'm not sure of exact figures. I just presumed if you'd modded the tunnel to lift the box it would have cocked the engines forward.

I guess it must tilt forward slightly, but it isn't enough to knock anything in the engine bay out of alighnment

    How much power?

I'd go with the OS Giken kit if you're only going to run around 400

Cheers for the input so far!

I'm aiming for 500 with the build spec, so hopefully I'll end up with more than 400. The OS Giken kit might be a bit tight.

Z33 might be the best, but R33/Z32 is a lot cheaper option. And it should be able to handle 500 just fine...

Thank you all for the comments!

Brookie, I don't suppose you have any photos of the z33 install or a build thread do you?

    Cheers

Go on Zilvia and read the CD009 thread all the info you could want

    Here you go:

As above the cd009 is meant to be amazing but hang low or need a fair amount of work to the trans tunnel. Sean's posted a fair bit of information on his swap in his project thread iirc.

Rb boxes used to be the cheaper option but not sure now.

    Strong and reasonable money? Z32
Strong, 6 speed, but a fair amount more? Z33

    I'd Z33 mine if I had the money, instead it's having a Z32 box.

RB boxes seem to have rocketed in money even more than Z32 boxes lately, and they're exactly the same internally as the Z32

Cd009 Z33 here. Been perfect for the past 3 years. Never had an issues of hanging low, if anything the PSM Cobra downpipe catches first on daft speed bumps etc...
