    Using a different MAF AFM

    Hi guys,

As everyone knows the AFM on our cars can be troublesome and are now very old.

This led me to wonder. Can we use say a VAG or BMW MAF on our cars. Just like we do the coils?

I was looking at something like this?

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192100394893

I guess it all depends on the voltage range but I am not technically equipped to know the ins and outs so putting it out there.

People used to do this with an Apexi SAFC for Z32/R33 MAFS, it was a bit of a bodge but sort of worked

What is the difference between them? Is it resistance or voltage?

Voltage, the same volume of air would be lower voltage on the Z32 so it had to scale it down.

I'm sure it could be mapped to work but I've heard of modern one failing way more than out old ones when I had my 330 I went through 2 in 5 years

I'd order a brand new z32 one if you want reliability and get a map for it

quite a few people are shifting to r35 maf's these days. theyre easier to come by and can be cheaper than a z32. i know tuners can tweak a map to run these in pretty much the same way as running a z32

Yeah I was going to say that don't be fooled by German = good. They prob fail more on BMs and VAG!

I'm going R35 sensors on my GTR.

It's not about being good. It's about easy and cheaper to source when they go wrong. The sr20 ones are like hens teeth now and there is no guarantee it will work even if you manage to get one.

If they have to be mapped then I will wait anyway.

    Doesn't the r35 have 2?

I see what you mean. R35 does have 2, but seperate. So you can buy 1 and use a housing. Think 350z ones are the same too!
