    Ca oil temps

Need to sort a solution to an oil temp issue.

On track at Llandow after a few laps my oil was getting upto 130 degC i partly think this is the reason my catch can fills up as much as it does.

    Current setup is-

    Thermo sandwich plate
    Mocal 13 row cooler
Cooler mounted between slam panel and x-member between intercooler and rad.

I am thinking of getting 20+ row cooler and putting cooler at the front (i am going to mid mount my intercooler anyway)

Would this be a better setup? Maybe add a fan to oil cooler too.

Mate I've got an s14a and at llandow Saturday mine was going up to 130 degrees I haven't got an oil cooler , but it made my pressure drop to 0.8 bar on idle, if you get an answer I'd be interested to , sorry to hijack your thread lol.

My RB13 has a 21 row cooler mounted behind the intercooler. My oil temp sensor wasn't working in Llandow but at other trackdays the highest oil temp was 115. Water temp reached 95 on Saturday

I wouldn't go bigger than a 19 row cooler personally. I fitted some giant 40 row mega thing to a CA once and had oil pressure problems.

maybe move the cooler to somewhere it can get a clean flow of air.

I first had my oil cooler mounted behind the water radiator and it had marginal effects so moved it to in front of the intercooler and it was miles better. but then I have the intercooler behind the slam panel.

the intake duct in your front bumper also looks on the small side.its all about forcing the air to go through the radiators as it will try to take the path of least resistance. engine under trays also help massively.

Cheers mate, think i will order a slightly bigger cooler and mount it right at the front.

Going to move my intercooler back to rad position amyway!

Havent yet moved my intercooler but on sat at jdmcombe my oil temp hit 140degrees so need to sort it asap.

Could the oil getting so hot and thinning cause it to be blowing out the catch can?

You need to state oil temp, pressure, type and grade.

The hole in the front is sized for the fan when stationary. It doesn't need to be as big as it is at speed.

If there any way the air can go to avoid going though the fins of a cooler/rad it will go thataway.

You do need the make sure the arch liners are in place or the arches sealed to the slam panel and to a splitter plate to seal the open bottom. Otherwise the air comes in front sees open holes to the underside and wheels and exits that way instead of the though the rads.

Sorry running 10w40 fuchs titan, normal road use is about 80-90degrees, track has reached 140degrees.
Oil pressure was 4.5bar ish and 1.2 at idle.

Can't fit the arch liners any more but could at least fit the undertray back on since it fell off a while ago!

if you still have your undertray fire it back on.

what were you doing at coombe? drifting or tracking?

where are you taking temperatures from?

oil temp should not cause increased blowby, what is reason of catch tank overfill. compression test would be usefull.

If it's not rings then its valve seals.

    Or possibly blocked/restricted head drains.

I'd personally go to 10/50 if your going to use it for track, and place the oil cooler in a better position, but not in front of the Intercooler.

Stem seals are all good will do a comp test as soon as i get a chance and put the undertray back on.

Dan you seen my setup? Think what doesnt help is that my oil cooler is up on end rather than sideways and partly blocked by my bumper.

It will have to go in front of ic as i am going back to mid mount

Could it be the thermostat not opening all the way?
