The Chronicles of Autoglass!!! Anybody had a good experience with them?

As some of you may remember, my windscreen cracked around mid feb. Year 2000 S14a 200sx.

I call Admiral on the 20th Feb, and was diverted to autoglass, as they were going to do the job. The job was booked in for Friday 24th Feb.

24th Feb: i got an email the night before, then a text on the day. Then at 9.30am on the day, i get a phone call saying they don't have the windscreen surround and hence can't do the job, and that someone else would call to arrange another time. I had taken the day off work, and was told on the day!! Day of annual leave wasted!

Over a week later somebody calls to let me know they now have the trim and will come and do the job. I booked for the 10th March (Friday, taken off work).

10th March: i got no email the night before, and no text on the day. I call Autoglass to inquire, they assure me someone is on the way. Technician comes at around 10am, gets out new screen, cleans it, then proceeds with removing scuttle panel, and trim. Then spend at least 30mins on mobile phone

He then knocks on the door and tells me that there is a track under the windscreen surround, and upon pulling out the surround, the track is damaged, and will also need replacing. They do not have it, so will have to postpone the job. Someone will be in touch to re-arrange. (Day off work, wasted)

I get a call saying they now have the track.

18th March: i got an email the night before, then a text on the day. Booked between 1-6pm. I am at a funeral, so anxious that i need to leave. Its now 3.30pm and no news from Autoglass. So i call them, i am assured that someone is coming, but they are 25mins away from me, and in the middle of another job. I am advised it will take 1-1.5hrs before they come to me.

5pm, i get a call saying the technician has advised that he will not be coming to do the job. Can't apologise enough, don't know what to say! However has spoken to manager, and will waive the £80 excess. As well as that, they will arrange for a Master Technician to come and do the job. He is reliable, and best man for the job! This is booked in for Friday 24th March (another day booked off work)

Friday 24th March: i got an email the night before, then a text on the day, this is exciting! Its finally happening!!! Then i get a call saying unfortunately the windscreen has been damaged and we have to order it from Nissan, so the earliest we can get it is Monday. I was fcuking fuming!!!!!

I went mad at the guy and eventually hung up! Put in a complaint with Admiral, and updated complaint with Autglass themselves.

I get a call on Monday 27th March from Autoglass saying because i have a specialist vehicle, the windscreen has to be ordered from Japan and will take 3 weeks!!!!

I called admiral and told them that i want someone else to do the job, they responded saying to me that if Autoglass can't get the glass, they doubt anyone else would be able to, and so its best i stick with them. But they will follow up on what went wrong.

Today (28th March) i get a call from Autoglass, saying they need to order the track and it will take 3-4 weeks as it has to come from Japan!!!!

I want some serious answers from Autoglass, if they never had the track in the first place, why did they book and flop on 2 more appointments (18th and 24th March).

I called admiral to update them, and that i no longer want autoglass to do the job as they are clearly cowboys!! They do however need to replace my damaged scuttle panel, and compensate me for my wasted time!!

Admiral said that was fine and that they would refer me to Nationwide Autowindscreens who would be in touch.

Nationwide got in touch, asked about the glass, called me back 5mins later and said they can do the job Monday 3rd April! I did advise them about the trim and the track. They called me back after 10mins and said monday between 9-1pm!

So Autoglass, have just been fcuking me around!! cnuts

    Need to change their Jingle:
    Autoglass don't care, Autoglass disgrace!

Didn't have any bother with Autoglass Derby a few years back for a S13. They did mention a trim problem on the phone but the guy that turned up said "I'll use the Nissan universal trim", it looks fine.

Only reason I can think for them having to get glass from Japan is you told them it was tinted a shade that isn't supplied in UK. Japan got option of some bronze tints.

As somebody that works for autoglass it's frustrating to hear this as I know as technicians we try and make sure everything is right for the customer/car. Basically on the first contact the technician should of explained the issues with these cars typically jap cars. The window trims are s**t and offered a universal trim or explained we may need to order extra trims so atleast you expect it and can make a decision for yourself. Not knowing the technician and his skill it sounds maybe he had not done one before as you don't need to remove the track as it doesn't stop you from cutting around the windscreen then you clip the new trim in to the track once new one is in. So it sounds like a mistake was made then obviously autoglass had to replace the oem parts which as a company are very good at but it has to come from Japan which we all know as a community that takes a while. The other day I finished a job on a skoda superb 16 plate(I know nothing to fantastic) job went perfectly. Doing up the last wiper nut on the passenger side. Socket slips off I think I must of just slipped. Nope the spindle has sheared off. Now I'm no hulk and wasn't leaning on it but autoglass replaced the whole wiper mechanism for the customer. Even though it's a 16 plate car and the metal should not be that bad. I know you've had a bad experience and I'm not making excuses by any means but mistakes happen and the company did try solving it. I hope it does get sorted for you buddy

I know things go wrong, and things take time to order. I am a reasonable guy, but to tell the person on the day is appalling. The way they have handled things is not acceptable, if you know you already have a troublesome job then you take care to manage the customers expectations. Autoglass have failed on this, it seems they don't have a single point of reference, different people working in silo and nothing about what the other person is doing.

Completely agree with you in this situation it has gone completely wrong well was wrong from the start and as you say expectations haven't been made. So I get where you are coming from. Only thing I'd say is nationals will replace with a universal trim they don't do oem stuff. They will say they can do It but won't say oh this won't be an oem trim they will just do it with what they have available sort of thing

I was thinking that may be the case, but as long as they do the job and do it well, i am not really fussed about OEM trims, as the OEM item is a bit ugly anyway, and I have heard on here that the aftermarket 1 piece jobbies actually look and perform better anyway. If Autoglass had told me that the OEM item was a PITA and they could fit a universal/generic aftermarket one to speed things up if i was happy with that, i would have said yes, but they didn't even have the courtesy to do that lol!

I'm waiting for a new screen for my S15. Fitter turned up and knew straight away he had the wrong screen. They'd given him an S12 screen and no trims.

Nissan uk have the trim, but the screen is heated so it's on the way from Japan. £130 for the trim and £710 for the screen

a brand new OEM screen trim is way better than the universal rubber jobbie.

I am not sure. I got the oem one anyway. But I think a one piece one looks better. Someone on here fitted a transit one and it does look good.

Funny you say that. The guy who came from autoscreens said that lots of technicians don't like doing cars like ours as they are hard work. New cars are a lot easier. He used to actually work for autoglass. The made a load of Jon cuts. Same amount of work and less staff. Gives the staff less motivation and more power to do what they want. Result? Watchdog lol!!!
