Sr20 blacktop straight cam iacv
Can the idle control be removed and replaced without taking the inlet off while engine fitted in the car. I've done it when the engine was out of the car and was ball ache then. I'm asking as I have idle issue and I would prefer not to make more problems while finding this one
I also have no gaskets so could make things worse

i dont believe so. theres a possibility you might be able to juggle it forwards to the throttle body. i usually remove the top half of the manifold, its a realy tight son of a... to get just the top out, you need to undo the lower manifold braces, but it does just about come out.

Do you use new gaskets every time? Do you know if s14/a sr20 intake gaskets are the same. Really dislike taking bits off specially when its bound to be a really little problem

You can do it with the top half of the inlet off, it's not that bad I've done it recently.

i would prefer to use a new gasket. i have used silicone in the past but have to be careful where its put and think if the 'squidge factor' on the internal ports.
the part numbers appear to be different to s13-s14. im finding 23785-50F00 is what you need but just double check. always worth a call to nissan as well, they sometimes stock and come up cheap

I have thought about making some out of gasket paper. Yesterday I unplugged the iacv and revs dropped and all seemed to run ok slightly high idle
